Oct. 7, 10:24 p.m. East Wheelock StreetHanover Police responded to a medical call involving an 18-year-old male Dartmouth student who had fallen off of a skateboard. When Hanover Police officers arrived at the scene, they found that the male and another 18-year-old Dartmouth student with him were both intoxicated. The student that had been riding the skateboard was transported to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, and both were charged with unlawful possession of alcohol. They were given a court date of Nov. 16.
Provost Barry Scherr who was to remain in his current position until June 2011 will step down, College President Jim Yong Kim announced in a campus-wide e-mail earlier today. Scherr is the latest in a series of high-level officials to announce their departures in the last few months.
South Korean President Lee Myung-bak congratulated Dartmouth President Jim Yong Kim on his inauguration as the College's 17th president in a letter to Kim and the Dartmouth community dated Sept. 17.
Jim Yong Kim begins his tenure as Dartmouth's 17th president today, succeeding former President James Wright. Kim will officially be welcomed to the College in an event on the Green this afternoon. The Dartmouth women's basketball team fell to top-seeded Maryland today in the first round of the NCAA women's basketball championship at the Comcast Center in College Park, Md.
The Dartmouth women's basketball team is the 16th seed in the Raleigh division of the NCAA tournament, and will face No. 1 seed Maryland in the tournament's first round on Sunday at the Comcast Center in College Park, Md. The tournament field was announced Monday evening on ESPN.
Koren Schram '09 scored her 1,000th career point on the way to 18 points on the night. Brittney Smith '11 led the team in scoring with 19 points, and Darcy Rose '09 posted a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Cody Lavender, a member of the Class of 2010, died early Sunday morning while studying at the University of Edinburgh on the Dartmouth religion Foreign Study Program, according to College officials.
Just a day after Dartmouth men's soccer secured a share of the Ivy League title in a 2-0 victory over Brown in Hanover on Saturday night, the NCAA awarded an at-large bid to the national tournament to the Big Green. Dartmouth was given the 16th overall seed and a first-round bye. The team will face the winner of the first-round match between Colgate University and Boston College. The Big Green's second-round match will be held at Burnham Field in Hanover on Tuesday, Nov. 25 at 6 p.m. Dartmouth is the highest-seeded Ivy League team in the tournament. The University of Pennsylvania and Harvard also received bids.
