A few weeks ago, I promised my trippees (what up, C782?) that I would cook them all dinner. In my head, I had some pretty extravagant plans perhaps a wild mushroom risotto? Or maybe a polenta encrusted chicken? Nothing was too good for my trippees. Quickly realizing, however, that I did not have the will to walk to the Co-op, I soon accepted the reality that I was going to have to resort to Topside. Although DDS is usually my culinary realm of choice, I was somewhat at a loss. I, like most people, view my Topside meal options as a choice between instant carbs (Ramen, Annie's and the like) or what I like to call, sninner (read: snacks for dinner i.e. usually some combination of Chewy bars, Cabot, cheese crisps and Fudge Shoppe cookies). But once I actually went into Topside and began to look around, I started to realize that there is actually a lot you can do with the seemingly limited selection at Topside. So this week, I've put together some recipes for appetizers, entrees and desserts that can be made exclusively with Topside ingredients. Whether you need a break from FoCo for dinner or want to impress that girl in your Econ class with skills beyond your ability to calculate differential equations, give these recipes a try. My only piece of advice: Get your shopping done on Thursday or Friday. No one wants to be that hapless soul wandering through the Topside food graveyard on a Wednesday night.

And there you have it. Crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, a little sweet, a little salty, and packed with flavor and that's all in a tofu dish. Let's just hope the kids at Dartmouth are a little more forgiving than my third grade elementary class.

The men's lightweight and heavyweight rowing teams finished 11th and 12th, respectively, in the Princeton Three-Mile Chase race this past Saturday. Despite not being as significant a meet as those that the Big Green will compete in during its regular Spring season, the regatta featured some of the best teams in the college crew circuit, including Syracuse University, Cornell University and the Navy.

While at first glance, it may just look like a baggie filled with those Frosted Mini Wheats your mom used to stick in your lunchbox when she was too lazy to pack you a real dessert, in reality it is so, SO much more. Basically, these crunchy white cages of chocolate peanut butter goodness are the only snacks that have the ability to at least somewhat improve my last-minute-gov-paper-writing sessions at 1:00 a.m. Somewhat. Unfortunately, DREAM likes to tempt me with a bake sale one day, only to disappear until two weeks later, leaving me without puppy chow for a much too lengthy period of time. So although I have no doubt I will forever remain a DREAM bake sale most frequent shopper, I'm giving them a little friendly competition with this week's DDS creation: puppy chow.
1. Get a packet of Crispix or Rice Chex from FoCo2. Get a salad bowl filled with a few scoops of peanut butter from the sandwich line (grab another bowl while you're at it).3. Pump about 5 pumps of chocolate sauce from the FroYo line into the peanut butter (or less depending on how much of a peanut butter fan you are).4. Get one packet of sugar-free hot chocolate mix, and one packet of regular dark hot chocolate mix (it's next to the entre line).5. Microwave the bowl for about 20 seconds, or until the mixture gets a little more liquid-y, and mix.6. Put the cereal in the second bowl and mix the peanut butter/chocolate into them until it evenly coats the pieces.7. Pour1packet of the sugar-free hot chocolate into the mix and either pour the mix in a plastic bag and add more in until the powder coats the Chex (this is most effective), or cover that bowl with the other bowl and shake. 8. If the mix doesn't end up as small bite size clumps, or is too sauce-y, incorporate half the packet of dark hot chocolate mix until it does.

I'm not sure when my fascination with the Greeks began. Maybe it was the Windex-loving dad in "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" who finds a way to trace the roots of the word "kimono" back to the Greek language or maybe the first time I heard the song "Zero to Hero" from the movie "Hercules" (I dare you to see that movie and not have that song stuck in your head for weeks) or maybe, just maybe, it was all those hours I spent (OK, spend) drooling in front of the TV over Uncle Jesse in "Full House." Either way, the strangest part of all of this is that for the longest time, among the many reasons for my infatuation with Greece, food wasn't one of them. It's not that I didn't like the food I just had no idea what it consisted of. I guess my thought was always that food couldn't be that important to them since they derive entertainment by breaking the very receptacles that one uses to eat food (that means plates, for those of you who are reading this semi-deliriously in Collis while scarfing down an egg-and-cheese sandwich before early morning drill). But a few years and several too many slices of spanakopita later, I'm telling you I was ready to name my first child Stavros. So naturally, I've been eyeing the Greek yogurt at Home Plate for a long time now, trying to figure out how to incorporate my sunkissed, feta-loving homeboys into the DDS Detective. This week's recipe, then, is my own twist on a savory Greek yogurt dip called "Tzatziki" I call it "Tzatziki Chicken Salad."

This cookbook featured one dish I had never heard of before, called French toast. Before you get all surprised that I hadn't heard of French toast, you have to understand the idiosyncratic breakfast habits of my family: for us it was always Honey-Nut Cheerios on weekdays and Papa Krishna's giant chocolate chip pancakes on weekends, as my sister had (and still has) a gag-reflex whenever she smelled eggs and I had a fear of waffles ever since I touched a hot waffle iron thinking it was chocolate when I was five.

Have you ever noticed how, out of all the fruits, the banana is the one that is always showing up everywhere? Seriously what other fruit do you know that has its own TV show (if you never watched "Bananas in Pajamas," you led a deprived childhood), an astonishingly fun word game (anyone know the real way to play Bananagrams? Didn't think so) chic clothing boutique (why not Raspberry Republic? Does no one like alliterations anymore?) and super cool water transportation vehicle (although a pineapple boat seems potentially problematic). Thank goodness that SpongeBob didn't end up living in a banana under the sea, and Steve Jobs was working on an apple farm when he decided he wanted to start an electronics company, or the banana would just be out of control.

As the Dartmouth football team celebrated an exciting 21-19 victory over Sacred Heart University on Saturday, rookie Dominick Pierre '14 had another reason to be excited. In his first day on the field for the Big Green, Pierre rushed for 110 yards, scored two touchdowns and made several solid catches all of which garnered him Ivy League Co-Rookie of the Week, this week.

Dartmouth dropped from 10th to 14th in Division I rankings and from 26th to 41st overall from last year, according to the organization's website. The rankings recognize colleges and universities which demonstrate excellence in both academics and athletics.

The nacho the food with which I have the biggest love-hate relationship. If we had a relationship status on Facebook, nachos and I would definitely be "it's complicated." It's the only thing I want from the concession stands at concerts, but it's also the one thing that makes me feel most like I'm going to boot after I eat it. It's the best predecessor to my meal when I'm at a Mexican restaurant, but it's also the reason why I'm never hungry by the time my enchiladas finally make it to the table. It's what I always resist when my friend James has his nacho cravings at 1:00 a.m. when my metabolism has way past checked out, but what I always end up eating a stack of when the EBA's guy shows up anyway. And maybe it's just me, but I have a feeling that I'm not the only one with such sentiments about the nacho.

Every person has that one random summer job he or she is constantly trying to forget about. You know what I'm talking about that time when you gave Duck Tours alongside a group of elderly women, cleaned animal feces out of the cages of your city zoo or served as a branch manager for a local McDonald's (Yes Danny, I saw the pictures). In other words, you'd just rather not talk about it. Well, not to throw her under the bus or anything, but my sister (Meera Krishna '11 hey girl heyyyy!) is a prime example of what I'm talking about. The summer after her senior year, Meera was deciding between conducting research at a university lab or being the shake lady at a sandwich chain called Which Wich. Naturally, having just graduated from high school and in no hurry to plunge back into the academic world, guess which one she chose? For about three months, while I was slaving away somewhere trying to build some semblance of a resume, Meera was making shakes. LOTS of them. She even became somewhat of a celebrity among local businesses they called her the "Which Wich Girl." And though I am pretty sure my sister burned her Which Wich uniform after the summer was over, she did learn how to make a mean Oreo Milkshake. So as I was thinking about Meera and her admittedly fabulous shakes, it made me really frustrated that I always have to wait for Milkshake Tuesdays at Late Night Collis to satisfy my craving. So what if you could have a fabulous milkshake at Collis whenever you wanted? Better yet, what if it tasted like your favorite Collis baked good? Enter the Brownie Milkshake.

Sloppy Joe, Sloppy Jane, Yum Yum, Wimpie whatever you choose to call it, this beefy, gooey creation is about as American as Full House. It is one of those concepts that makes perfect sense in the U.S.A. but in retrospect is probably included on other countries' laundry list of reasons why they hate America. If you think about it, Sloppy Joes essentially defy common sense. Instead of having the meat in a neat little patty, some guy named Joe decided to go the opposite direction and build the messiest sandwich possible and then come up with a name that celebrates its messiness. So while Italy has its tidily packed ravioli and France has its nice little portable baguettes and croissants, America has its big gooey messy (albeit incredibly tasty) burger that most people need to wear a bib to eat. Good thing we live in the Hanover bubble, where no one else will be able to see you savor this week's delectable creation: the classic Sloppy Joe. 1. Get a meatball from Collis with lots of marinara sauce.2. Grab a bun from the Collis sandwich line.3. Add some Tabasco sauce and chili powder to the meatball, to taste.4. After you check out, add two pumps of ketchup and a few shakes of salt and pepper to the meatball.5. Use a fork to grind the meatball.6. Spoon it between the two buns.

Green Key: the only thing at Dartmouth shrouded in more mystery than the fried mac and cheese at Late Night Collis (how do they get the macaroni into those neat triangular shapes anyway?). When I first heard about Green Key, all these questions started to surface in my mind. What is a green key? Whose key is it? What does it open? And most importantly, how special does this "green key" have to be for an entire weekend to be named after it?
