I think I speak for all Americans when I say that I really identify with "It's My Life," the new-ish Bon Jovi song. Sure, the heavy guitar represents a drastic departure from their folk-rock roots, but I think it's impressive that an old, obviously gay man like Jon Bon Jovi can keep up with these "hard rock" times. But that's not the only thing I love about this song. Far from it.

The new, expanded cable system that Dartmouth now offers has brought both good and bad to campus. The average GPA for campus has dropped from 2.8 during the spring term of this year, to just under 1.5 for this term. Like Hardware's glowing space-ropes, the new cable channels have ensnared Dartmouth College. Having been drawn in by Melodia's siren song, the average student finds himself in the center of one of Windhammer's brutal red dust storms. But some good has come with this decrease in scores; Students are achieving record levels of proficiency on the College Board's oldest and most respected test: The "Silverhawk" Aptitude Test.

I was perusing a recent New Yorker magazine the other day when I came across a simply delightful cartoon. Well, it requires a little setup, so maybe I should do that. You see, I tend to catch on to references, even very obscure ones like those in this cartoon, but many people do not. A number of actors, including Peter Sellers and George Lazenby, have played the role of a suave private eye named "James Bond."

Vigo, best known for his work in "Ghostbusters 2," is a terrible thing to behold: 14 feet tall, with the horns of a goat, and flaming like the torch that destroys the darkness. I caught up with him in Gastronomo's, an internet caf in San Jose.

The real mission: impossible was figuring out the plot of "Mission: Impossible," am I right? That was one confusing movie. That and "Stuart Saves His Family." Virtuoso Performance is not a description that Al Franken is unfamiliar with, but 'Stuart' is like a delicate rose, with each petal a different layer of Stuart's character, brought out with aplomb by the photography of George Herriman, creator of "Krazy Kat." I've seen this movie over 60 times, and each time it brings a tear to my eye, and the flight of a thousand birds to my heart.

Did you ever notice how nothing that was cool in 1989 is still cool? Vanilla Ice is no longer cool. Color Me Badd is not cool anymore. Arsenio Hall is not cool anymore. Collecting pencils is not cool anymore.

"It turns out that Scott Bakula still has a year of NCAA eligibility, and even though he's no spring chicken, he's got one hell of an arm, and the experience to whip this rag-tag bunch of misfits you call a football team into shape, goddamit."

Lost on the Hutch in southern New York state, listening to Jean Pitney's orientalist classic "Mecca" and drinking cream soda, we continued our departure from the Windy Apple. Okay, so I'm a dork, I'd never been to New York City before, but I made up for it this past weekend, embarking on a debaucherous road trip with The Virtuoso himself.

A lot's going on in the world today. While Germany consolidates power in the chocolate industry, controversy is swirling around the IMF and the WTO. The two organizations, which spend their time turning water into wine as if they were God's foremen, are fighting the influence of the "dirty, dirty hippies," according to Dan Rather. The presidential race is also gathering steam, but nothing's hotter than the fashion industry. Let's take a behind the scenes look at what's in and what's not in music, movies and fashion for the year 1992.

"It's been twenty long years, and the fire's still burning. The wax on the candle melts like tears, you know it don't come easy: the road of the gypsy."
