The Board of Trustees will discuss a possible increase in the student activities fee when they meet to discuss the budget in February.
Dean of Student Life Holly Sateia said the proposed increase would be the first increase of the fee since the late 1980s.
"There is a proposal on the table and I know the Trustees are going to be looking at that and a variety of other things" when they look at the budget, Sateia said. "It's going to follow the same process" as other aspects of the budget.
The Undergraduate Finance Committee divides the $35 student activities fee among nine campus organizations. Its 1995 budget was $422,000.
Linda Kennedy, acting director of student activities, said the increased funding would lead to an increase in the number of events for students.
"Every year the UFC has many more worthy requests than it's able to handle," Kennedy said. "There are quite a large variety of things that would be more funded including discounted sporting events tickets and more Programming Board events."
Karen Lefrak '98, Programming Board budget chair said she has "crusaded" for the fee increase because she thinks more funding for activities will benefit students on campus.
"Whenever I go to the UFC there are always a lot of great proposals, but there's not enough money for everything," Lefrak said. "It makes me unhappy to see people walking away from the UFC meetings unhappy."
