In an internal election this week, the Senior Executive Committee elected the alumni officers for the Class of 1996.
In an on-line election several weeks ago, the senior class elected 20 representatives from 58 possible candidates to serve on the Executive Committee.
On Tuesday, the committee elected Tom Caputo as president; Brendan Doherty as vice president; Monica Oberkofler as secretary; Jack Kolodny as treasurer; and Shakari Cameron as alumni counselor
The officers will handle communication, finances, reunions and activities for the next five post-graduation years of the Class of 1996, said Elizabeth Appel, assistant director of Alumni Relations.
Doherty said the Executive Committee is the "body that tries to keep the class together for five years after graduation."
Appel said the committee will appoint three additional officers next month. The head agent manages monetary allocations from the Alumni Fund. The newsletter editor edits a class publication issued three times a year. The mini-reunion chair organizes alumni events in different cities across the country.
Currently, the committee is planning Class Day, Commencement and the first class newsletter, Appel said.
Doherty said the officers will meet with the class deans later this week to coordinate the activities.
In upcoming months, Doherty said the committee will work to ensure the "mechanisms are in place" to ease the transition from student to alumnus.
Oberkofler said she will become the class contact for the Alumni Magazine, writing a column for each Alumni Magazine issue.
She said the committee looks to "foster the link that established us as a class ... it's a fun way to do it."
Cameron said she will act as a liaison between the Class of 1996 and the Alumni Council. She said the position will bring her back to campus twice a year, so she will be able to address campus as well as alumni issues.
Caputo, who was out of town, could not reached for comment.
