Two students assaulted

An unidentified male assaulted Ben Cooperberg '98 and Jason Seiler '98 in separate incidents Monday, spraying both students with a pepper spray.

According to a Hanover Police Department press release, investigators have identified a suspect, but no one has been officially charged in the incident.

Cooperberg, who was assaulted at 11:45 p.m. Monday, said a vehicle approached him as he was walking from the corner of West Wheelock Street to his room in the River Cluster apartments. He said he could not identify the make or type of the car.

One of the passengers in the vehicle asked Cooperberg for directions to Everything But Anchovies Restaurant, he said. During this time period, Cooperberg was sprayed in the face with the pepper spray.

Cooperberg said there were five passengers in the car, including the man who sprayed him. Cooperberg said the individual who asked for directions was around 18 or 19 years old, but could not identify the ages of the other passengers.

Hanover Police were called to the scene and Cooperberg was taken to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center for treatment.

Cooperberg said yesterday he feels "fine," but he had to wear an eye-patch for 24 hours.

The police classified the attack as a simple assault.

Earlier Monday, Seiler was attacked with pepper spray by a man on foot matching the description of an individual in the car who assaulted Cooperberg, according to the press release.

Seiler was driving a delivery car for EBAs on North College Street when he was attacked, the release stated.

Seiler was uninjured and did not request medical treatment.

Hanover Police said they have identified a suspect with the help of the police in Hartland, Vt., and Dartmouth Safety and Security.

Hanover Police Officers Steven Read and Darryl Zampieri, who are investigating the case, could not be reached for comment.

Seilers also could not be reached for comment.
