SA responds to ORL plan

The Student Assembly's executive committee passed a motion 9-1 yesterday calling for the administration to push back the deadline for counter-proposals to the Office of Residential Life's proposed Coed Fraternity Sorority housing policy.

ORL's proposal demands that Greek houses and undergraduate societies fill their beds before members can get on-campus housing.

The deadline for counter-proposals is currently set for Jan. 28.

General Assembly member Bill Kartalopoulos '97 said he and Najam Haider '97 originally intended the motion to be "a statement of opposition to the proposed policy of ORL."

But by the end of the meeting, the executive committee scaled the motion down until it simply asked for a deadline extension.

Assembly Vice President John Honovich '97 said the Assembly will come out with a more "definitive" motion in the next two weeks.

Coed Fraternity Sorority Council President Matt Raben '96 said Greek representatives are already working on a counter-proposal that should "definitely" be ready before Jan. 28.

"They certainly can pass" the motion, Raben said. "They have that right. Whether or not it will have an impact remains to be seen."

"We look at this as primarily an in-house issue," he said.
