To the Editor:
Thank you for publishing the recent story on the appointment of Nelson Armstrong '71 as the new director of alumni relations at Dartmouth. Allow me, however, to correct an impression that some of your readers may have taken from the story.
While "Dartmouth's alumni population is growing increasingly diverse and widespread," it has always represented a rich mixture of background and experience, ideas and opinions and interests and skills. I would not want your readers to think otherwise.
Further, when Armstrong arrives on campus in January, he will no doubt acknowledge having to face one principal challenge that his predecessors managed quite successfully: maintaining effective relations with our alumni who have always been an invaluable resource and base of support for Dartmouth.
