Potential 98s visit for weekend

They carry manila envelopes and look excited, worried or lost as they trudge around the campus following tour guides. They are the prospective Class of 1998.

About 450 prospective students will have visited the campus by Tuesday, according to Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid Karl Furstenberg.

In preparation for the big weekend, the Admission's Office arranged classes, panels, activities fairs and other special programs to entertain and to inform the prospectives, who arrived Saturday and Sunday. Most of the activities will finish Tuesday.

Louisa Stamm, a prospective from Framingham, Mass. said she is deciding between Dartmouth and Amherst College in Massachusetts.

"I've only been here two hours but I really like it," she said.

Stamm said what impressed her most about the College is the D-Plan.

"I really want to go abroad," Stamm said. "And it makes it really easy."

Wendy Lee, a prospective from Vero Beach, Fla. stood in the 70 degree weather yesterday in a sweater and jeans.

"It's too cold, but I'm probably going to come here," she said with a sigh. Lee is deciding between Dartmouth and Vanderbilt University in Tennessee.
