Freedman doing well, remains in hospital

College President James Freedman, who is in good condition, remains in Boston's Massachusetts General Hospital despite earlier reports that said he would be released yesterday.

Hospital spokeswoman Peggy Slazman said Freedman's continued hospitalization is not abnormal.

Freedman underwent surgery Monday to remove a testicular tumor. Slazman said yesterday she does not know when Freedman will be released from hospital care.

Lab results indicating if the tumor is cancerous should be ready in the next few days, College Spokesman Alex Huppe said.

A College statement announcing the surgery said Freedman would be released from the hospital yesterday.

Slazman said the hospital can not release more information about Freedman's condition without his family's authorization.

Mass General's Chief of Urology Scott McDougal '64 performed the surgery Monday.
