While driving a friend's car, Owen Ross '95 struck Italian Professor Teresa Picarazzi at the corner of East Wheelock and Main Street shortly after 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
Picarazzi was crossing the street in front of the Hanover Inn within a crosswalk at the time of the accident.
She could not recall whether she saw the car coming and thought she could cross safely or if she didn't see the vehicle at all, she said. According to Picarazzi, the car hit her on her left leg.
Ross declined to comment.
Picarazzi was taken to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical center by the Hanover Fire Department Ambulance. She was treated for knee and elbow injuries and released the same day.
Doctors wanted to give Picarazzi a crutch, but she preferred not to have one, she said. Picarazzi may need treatment on her left leg in the future, and is presently walking with difficulty. Doctors have prescribed her bed rest for several days, she said.
According to DHMC's Public Relations Department, her injuries were minor.
The Hanover Police Department is investigating the accident, but no charges have been filed.
Picarazzi, who spent yesterday resting at a friends' house in Thetford, Vt., said she has not considered taking any legal action.
