Dick's House notes fewer influenza cases

The Dartmouth As this temperamental New Hampshire winter progresses with its fluctuating temperatures, unseasonably warm days and lack of snow, College Health Services and Dick's House have seen fewer students with influenza and upper respiratory infections than they have in past winters.

Transition to VoIP technology nearly complete, despite delays

Emma Haberman / The Dartmouth Senior Staff As Technical Services completes the last phase of a campus-wide transition to Voice over Internet Protocol, students can now enjoy new features such as caller identification on their dorm room telephones. The project began in late 2004 when the College decided to combine the voice, video and data streams into one unified network.

Tuck to enter Minority Business Hall of Fame

Nat Smith / The Dartmouth Staff This Thursday at the Harvard Club in New York City, the Tuck School of Business will become the first academic institution to be inducted into the Minority Business Hall of Fame. The award recognizes Tuck's Minority Business Executive Program, which is aimed at African Americans, Native Americans, Hispanic Americans and Asian Americans who own businesses, but do not have access to the type of training that is necessary to reach the executive level.

Christian groups collaborate to raise $5,000 for Asia Relief

Last night, campus Christian groups united to present "By the Fire," a worship session and concert to benefit Asia Relief. The donations collected at the program will go to victims of the earthquake that rocked South Asia last October, killing 87,000 people and leaving another three million homeless. The Asia Relief Committee was formed by the Tucker Foundation last year in response to the disaster. Esau McCaulley, Assistant to the College Chaplin and the Pastor of the Logos Community since the beginning of last term, has been organizing this event since November and hoped to raise as much as $12,000. The effort had managed a total of $5,012, though, before the conclusion of the program. "Wintertime is approaching in that area of the world, and the people affected by the earthquake have no housing and no food.

Dartmouth ends hunger pre-Thanksgiving

The Tucker Foundation kicked off its Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week Sunday. Although this campaign is held the week before Thanksgiving on hundreds of college campuses, Dartmouth's involvement has a unique twist this year. Dartmouth Ends Hunger, a Tucker Foundation-sponsored group, initiated a student-led project in which participants will eat only rice and beans, a common diet in developing countries, from Sunday to Saturday this week.

Duke, Prescott join Center for Women and Gender

The Center for Women and Gender is undergoing significant changes this term as the center welcomes new staff, plans innovative programs and redesigns its office space. The center hired Alysondra Duke as assistant director earlier this year.
