Griffith’s Got Stats: NCAA Basketball Championship Overview

In a basketball season marked by parity and scandal, it was only fitting that the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship was won by a team which made one of the most dominant runs in recent history while led by a clean-cut coach, referring both to his lack of involvement in the most recent benefits scandal and to the fact that he’s always dressed to the nines with his suits. The Villanova University Wildcats, the 1-seed in the East Region, defeated the University of Michigan Wolverines, the 3-seed in the West Region, 79-62 last Monday.

Dartmouth Football hires new wide-receiver coach, Dave Shula ’81

Dartmouth football head coach Buddy Teevens ’79 officially announced the hiring of wide receiver coach Dave Shula ’81 two weeks ago, marking a drastic change in the football staff for the upcoming 2018-19 football season. Hailing from Lexington, Kentucky, Shula has had an extensive background in the National Football League, having spent one year as a player for the then-Baltimore Colts and nearly 15 years as a coach for the Miami Dolphins, Dallas Cowboys and Cincinnati Bengals.

Ian Kelsey ’18, captain of the men’s golf team and one of two seniors on the team, has helped lead a surging Big Green golf team as they look ahead to the upcoming Ivy League Championship in late April.

Softball is currently 10-13 overall and 4-2 in Ivy League play, winning two of three games in a series against both Columbia University and the University of Pennsylvania.

Softball rallies to turn season around after disappointing start

After starting the season winless in their opening tournament in Florida and 1-8 overall, Dartmouth softball has begun turning their season around just in time for Ivy League play.  Ace starting pitcher Breanna Ethridge ’18 noted that the team was extremely rusty at the beginning of the season. “First weekend out in February we had not seen dirt, we hadn’t even put on our cleats yet,” Ethridge said.

Women’s lacrosse is currently 7-1 overall and 3-0 in conference play.

Women’s lacrosse sits at No. 19 in national rankings

With an overall 7-1 record thus far, the Dartmouth Women’s Lacrosse team has been on fire. As the team reaches the midpoint of the season, it is ranked 19th in the nation — the first time it has been within the top 20 since 2013 —  and is recently coming off of two big wins against Ivy League rivals Princeton University and Harvard University. On March 24th, the team had just navigated a tough two-game road trip and was headed to New Jersey to play a tough opponent in Princeton.
