Coogan joins women's track staff

Drake to coach men's tennis, Jones switches to women's team

Courtesy of DartmouthSports.com Courtesy of DartmouthSports.com The coaching staff of Dartmouth's men's and women's tennis squads was recently shaken up after acting Athletic Director Bob Ceplikas announced the hiring of Chris Drake as the new head coach of the men's tennis team and David Jones as the new women's assistant coach. Jones will transition to his new position after serving as the assistant men's tennis coach for 23 years. Drake, who will replace Chuck Kinyon, will arrive at Dartmouth after serving as an assistant coach at Northwestern University for the last three years. Drake also had a successful tennis career, playing for Brown University and then professionally. "He's a young and upcoming coach, so we're very excited about this," Michael Laser '12, a member of the men's tennis team, said.

Teams continue play, athletes earn recognition over break

ANNA GAISSERT / The Dartmouth Staff ANNA GAISSERT / The Dartmouth Staff As spring term drew to a close, members of the men's baseball team shifted their exam schedules, packed their textbooks and jetted off to sunny Coral Gables, Fla., to compete in the first round of the 2010 NCAA Baseball Tournament. Following a disappointing Chapel Hill regional showing in 2009 in which Dartmouth was eliminated after two losses, the Big Green earned its first victory in a NCAA regional in 23 years.

The Big Green baseball team (26-17, 13-7 Ivy) won its second consecutive Ivy League title this year despite a rough start to the season in conference play.

Four women's lacrosse players named All-Region

Kasia Vincunas / The Dartmouth Staff Kasia Vincunas / The Dartmouth Staff The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association has named four Big Green players to the All-Region team for their outstanding play this season, in which the women's lacrosse team ranked 12th in the nation finished second in the Ivy League. The players goalie Julie Wadland '10, defender Shannie MacKenzie '11, attacker Greta Meyer '11 and midfielder Sarah Plumb '12 represent four of the five players who started each of Dartmouth's 16 games this season. Only two Big Green players were named to the All-Region team last year. Wadland said the fact that four members of the Big Green received this honor speaks to the achievement of the team as a whole. "It's definitely a reflection of the hard work of the entire team," she said.

Football prepares for Summer training schedule

While there is not always a full coaching staff on campus during the Summer, all the strength and conditioning coaches will train with players in Hanover as well as several of the individual coaches, newly-named co-captain Charles Bay '11 said. The typical Summer practices entail "lifting, running, specialized practices and seven-on-seven scrimmages," according to co-captain Tim McManus '11, who spent his sophomore Summer off campus and trained individually.
