Men's basketball defeats Penn before falling to Princeton

|

Zonia Moore / The Dartmouth Staff For their last two away games of the season, the men's basketball team faced off against two Ivy League opponents, the University of Pennsylvania on Friday and Princeton University on Saturday. The Big Green had two nail-biting matches with the Quakers (8-20, 5-6 Ivy) and the Tigers (16-9, 9-2 Ivy), yielding a 69-64 Dartmouth victory against Penn that snapped a five-game losing streak for the Big Green.

For the Love of the Game

How many times have you heard an announcer say something like this: "He may be small, but he plays with a lot of heart" or "People told him he was too small to play in the big leagues, but he is out here proving them wrong." If you follow professional sports, my guess is that you have heard the previous statements a fair amount.

Although the specific impact of these changes on the Ivy League, and Dartmouth, may not be as dramatic as on larger conferences, they will force administrators and coaches to reassess how they recruit high school athletes.

Recruitment Deregulation

|

Mulin Xiong / The Dartmouth Staff The NCAA Board of Directors announced in January that it would eliminate many of the restrictions schools face when contacting recruits, loosening up a complex and outdated rulebook whose policies were becoming increasingly difficult to enforce. Although the specific impact of these changes on the Ivy League, and Dartmouth, may not be as dramatic as on larger conferences, they will force administrators and coaches to reassess how they recruit high school athletes. Five significant recruiting changes eliminate almost all restrictions on how colleges can communicate with prospects.

Courtesy of Dartmouth Sports Performing in one track and field event is far from easy, but participating in five in the same competition adds a whole new dimension for track athletes like Janae Dunchack '14, a tri-captain for the Big Green women and pentathlon athlete in last weekend's Ivy League Heptagonal championship.

Men's lacrosse team wins against UVM

|

Zonia Moore / The Dartmouth Staff After a disappointing loss against Colgate University last weekend, the Big Green men's lacrosse team scored their first season win and defeated the University of Vermont 13-8 in a dramatic Tuesday afternoon game at Scully-Fahey Field. Midfielders Nikki Dysenchuk '13 and Jack Connolly '16 and attackers Chris Costabile '13 and Jeff Perkins '14 each scored two goals apiece, while attackers Adam Hull '15 and Adam Fishman '15 and midfielder Brendan Rotanz '14 all rang in with their first goals of the season. Despite a slow first half, the Big Green proved itself in the second half with four goals in the third quarter that turned into an insurmountable deficit for UVM in the fourth quarter, during which Dartmouth made an impressive seven additional goals. "It was certainly great to get a win at home after our game against Colgate," goalkeeper Colin Heffernan '15 said.
