“Romeo and Juliet” will bring a new twist to the classic play

With its components of romance and drama, many theaters have undertaken the iconic “story of more woe” between the star-crossed lovers of Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet.” The challenge faced by modern theater productions is finding the perfect balance between creating a unique interpretation that audiences will find as thought-provoking as the original play without taking too much creative license through the characters’ dialogue or the play’s setting.

EPA recognizes Hanover Water Reclamation Facility

The Environmental Protection Agency recognized the Hanover Water Reclamation Facility for a 2014 Regional Industrial Pretreatment Program Excellence Award, the EPA reported on Feb. 9. This follows what Town Manager Julia Griffin said is a recent increase in awareness in the Hanover community about the impact of climate change and a renewed effort to reduce the town’s carbon footprint.

Dartmouth rugby and USA Eagles compete in Las Vegas

Madison Hughes ’15, who was selected to captain the USA Eagles sevens squad earlier this year, reunited with the Dartmouth Rugby Football Club this past weekend in Las Vegas. The reunion came with the coinciding of the 2015 Las Vegas Invitational and 2015 USA Sevens international rugby tournament as part of the Sevens World Series. Hughes was selected to lead the team for the series’ fifth consecutive leg and captained the Eagles to their best World Series finish since 2010. ?

Men’s tennis takes second at ECAC tournament

The men’s tennis team traveled to Boston over the weekend to compete in the ECAC Indoor Tennis Championship. After defeating St. John’s University 4-3 and shutting out Brown University 4-0, the Big Green suffered a 0-5 loss against Harvard University in the finals. The men are now 5-4 in their season.

Fundraising for this year’s Dartmouth United Way campaign ended on Saturday, Feb. 14 without reaching the goal of raising $320,000, Dartmouth United Way campaign co-chair Gail Gentes said.

DHMC receives A+ financial rating

|

For the second year in a row, Fitch Ratings, a New York-based financial ratings agency, has awarded the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Obligated Group’s revenue bonds an A+ rating. The rating, which was issued earlier this month, is based on the approximately $69 million revenue bond series 2009 and $75 million revenue bond series 2010, according to the Fitch report.

“The Vagina Monologues” will explore female experiences

About 40 self-identifying Dartmouth women will take the stage tonight to perform monologues in the 17th annual performance of Eve Ensler’s “The Vagina Monologues” for V-February.V-February is the College’s annual campaign to end gender-based violence and promote gender equality, and the monologues performed tonight will encompass an array of issues relating to women’s sexuality, ranging from comical to more emotional and provocative performances.

Women’s basketball splits weekend, ends losing streak

Looking to regain its early season form and snap a five-game losing streak, the Dartmouth women’s basketball team headed to New York this past weekend for the middle two games in its Ivy League schedule. While the first matchup ended in yet another loss — 66-46 to Cornell University — the women delivered a monumental victory in the second, edging Columbia University 61-54 in overtime.

Town adds electric car charging stations

The Town of Hanover installed two ChargePoint electric car charging stations in the Hanover parking garage on 7 Lebanon St. this past month in an effort to make the town more environmentally conscious, Hanover parking division supervisor Patrick O’Neill said.
