Former Dartmouth women's basketball stars Erin Rewalt '99 Tu'04 and Koren Schram '09 will return to their alma mater next season as members of the women's basketball staff. Rewalt will serve as an assistant coach for the team alongside head coach Chris Wielgus and assistant coach Leah Foster, while Schram will assume the role of director of basketball operations.

Natalie Colaneri '12 finished fifth out of eight in the Walk-trot competition, and Katherine Lindzey '13 finished seventh in the Novice Flat in a field comprised of the best riders in New England. Nina Crossley of Stonehill College won the Walk-trot and teammate Christine Dwyer won the Novice Flat.

Andrew Weibrecht '09 made the cover of the March 1 issue of Sports Illustrated magazine for winning a bronze medal. The cover features Weibrecht standing next to U.S. ski team standouts Lindsey Vonn, Bode Miller and Julia Mancuso. The foursome helped lead the U.S. alpine ski team to is best Olympic showing ever earning a record eight medals in the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games. "It was a huge honor to be on the cover of Sports Illustrated, especially with some of the most iconic skiers of our generation," Weibrecht said in an e-mail to The Dartmouth. "It's awesome that a magazine of that caliber recognized our achievements and in many ways it makes the accomplishment that much cooler."
In many ways the 2009 spring season was a mixed bag for Dartmouth sports. While baseball was undeniably impressive, other teams like men's lacrosse and women's golf struggled with consistency. But after spending the off-season preparing for their ever competitive Ivy League foes, Dartmouth's spring sports are gearing up for their regular seasons in hopes of the always contentious Ivy League Championship.
Former Dartmouth linebacker Chris Balish '88 will be the cohost of a new ABC 7 production On The Red Carpet which will premiere on March 14, according to an ABC press release. The show will be a source for celebrity headlines and Hollywood news and will be cohosted by Miss USA 2007, Rachel Smith. Balish is an Emmy Award-winning broadcast journalist, reporter and anchor. He has authored two best-selling books, including How to Live Well Without Owning a Car. While playing football for Dartmouth, Balish was an Academic All-American.
Big Green Soccer standout Craig Henderson '09 was named to New Zealand's 17-man roster for a World Cup warm up match against Mexico on March 3 in Los Angeles, according to IvyLeagueSports.com. This is Henderson's first call-up to New Zealand's highest squad, after representing New Zealand in the U-20 World Cup and the 2008 Beijing Olympics. With the 2010 World Cup approaching in June, a strong performance in Mexico could help Henderson secure a spot on New Zealand's World Cup roster. Henderson finished his standout Dartmouth career last fall, earning All-America and All-Ivy League honors during his tenure as the team's co-captain.
Republican R. Nelson "Oz" Griebel '71, a Big Green pitcher from 1969-1971, announced his intention to run for the governorship of Connecticut on Thursday, Courant.com reported. Griebel, the president and CEO of MetroHartford Alliance an economic development organization posted a .833 winning percentage and is second on the all-time Big Green list in that statistic. He was a member of the 1970 Ivy League champion baseball squad that made it to the College World Series. Griebel was a multi-sport athlete, also playing as a guard on the Dartmouth football team during his sophomore year. As a Dartmouth legacy, Griebel was born with ties to the Big Green sports community his father, Richard Griebel '46, was a member of the Big Green men's basketball and football teams. This is Oz Griebel's first attempt at running for a public office, and his platform will center on alleviating the state's budget problems, according to Courant.com.
The last time Dartmouth looked for a head coach was five years ago following the resignation of Dave Faucher. The search process took over three months to complete, with over 100 applicants for the position.
Assistant coaches Mark Guape, Micheal Brown, and Tim Lane collectively assumed coaching responsibilities for the team's game against Harvard on Saturday, in which the Big Green lost 76-47. They will continue to coach until an interim head coach is announced.
With 14 games to go in the season, the Big Green (6-6-2, 4-4-1 ECAC) still has time to put together a winning season.
