The doubleheader against the Bulldogs (16-15-1, 3-7 Ivy), originally scheduled for Saturday, was pushed back to Sunday due to the inclement weather in Hanover over the past several days.

In the first game, Dartmouth got the offense going after Jason Brooks '11 hit a two-out double and came around to score on Brett Gardner's '10 single to the left side of the infield.

The run proved to be all the support pitcher and captain Robert Young '10 would need, as Young pitched a six hit complete-game shutout to earn his second victory of the season in impressive fashion.

"Today, I was able to find the curve ball and throw it for strikes," Young said. "They had to look for that and it made my fastball better. I was able to get to both sides of the plate with the fastball and come in with the curve ball and it just opened up a lot of opportunities for me."

Complementing the superb pitching of Young, Brooks was the centerpiece of Dartmouth's offense and played a role in all of Dartmouth's three runs. Brooks finished 3-3 on the day with an RBI and two runs scored.

Dartmouth padded its lead in the fifth inning, after Brooks doubled to open the frame and advanced to third when Gardner flied out to right. A single up the middle by Jake Carlson '12 scored Brooks and gave Dartmouth a 2-0 lead.

In the sixth inning, Jeff Onstott '11 drew a leadoff walk and then advanced to third on a fielder's choice after a Bulldogs error. He then came home on Brooks third hit of the day to cap off the scoring.

Young earned the win for the Big Green while Yale hurler Pat Ludwig took the loss, despite only giving up two earned runs and striking out 10 Dartmouth batters.

In the second game, the Big Green wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, exploding for five runs in the opening frame en route to another victory.

Carlson led off the game by reaching safely on a bunt and advanced to second after Chris O'Dowd '13 managed to draw a walk. Following a Joe Sclafani '12 strike out, outfielder Jim Wren '10 smacked a 3-1 pitch over the right field fence for his second home run of the season.

The scoring continued as Gardner walked and then came home on a two-out home run by third baseman Zack Bellenger '13, his second of the season.

The Bulldogs tacked two runs on in the third inning and threatened to tie the score in the sifth. Trailing 6-2 entering the inning, Yale scored after Trygg Larsson-Danforth hit a double down the left field line to bring in Matt Schmidt, making the score 6-3.

After Big Green starter Ben Murray '10 walked and hit a batter to load the bases, reliever Cole Sulser '12 came in to pitch. Sulser then struck out Josh Scharff on four pitches to end the threat.

"[Sulser] was outstanding," head coach Bob Whalen said. "He has the ability to start or relieve. When you're a reliever, the most important guy you face is the first guy. If he gives up a double there and they clear the bases, and then he never lets another guy on, it's still a different game. So those guys have to understand that their success rate against the first guy they face is key, and he has been exceptional with that."

Sulser continued pitching through the rest of the game, giving up just one run while striking out four in 3.1 innings of relief. Murray picked up the win after pitching 5.2 solid innings, giving up three earned runs while fanning four batters. Vinny Lally took the loss for Yale, giving up seven earned runs on seven hits in 6.1 innings.

The Big Green will resume play tomorrow against Yale in another doubleheader. Two more wins will help the team keep pace with division leading Brown in the Rolfe Division.

"That's a very good team out there today and we have to try and win game one tomorrow," Whalen said. "That's really all I'm focused on because Brown will take care of itself."

The first game is scheduled for 12 p.m., with game two following immediately after.
