As local businesses and high school students prepare for Green Key Weekend, residents of the town of Hanover will not be as much of a presence on campus as they tend to be over Homecoming and Winter Carnival -- a difference attributable to the insular focus of most of the weekend's activities.

Loeb lives at Cobb Hill, a Hartland, Vt., housing community focused on sustainable living. The 60 residents of Cobb Hill co-own the 270 acres of land and all help to take care of the farm and manage the single wood-powered heating system that provides heat to all 22 houses.
The doctors' research proved that MRI scans detected tumors missed by mammograms in three percent of the 969 female research subjects who were diagnosed with cancer in the other breast. The doctors involved in the study concluded that an MRI scan is a more reliable tool to detect second cases of breast cancer than mammograms. The failure of mammograms to immediately detect cancer in the other breast often results in women having to go through two rounds of chemotherapy.
"Our whole mission is to get Tuck students to look at business issues in a global context," Lisa Miller, the associate director of the Center for International Business, said. "The large majority of our students stay in the United States after they graduate. Nonetheless, all of the corporations that they go into have global focuses."
U.S. News and World Report rated the Tuck School of Business the seventh best graduate business program in the country in the magazine's annual rankings, published March 30. The ranking is two spots higher than Tuck's position last year.

Milton Ochieng '04 first dreamed of building the Lwala Community Clinic in his village of Lwala, Kenya, while on a Tucker Foundation Cross-Cultural service trip to Nicaragua during his sophomore winter. On that trip, Milton traveled with 30 other Dartmouth students to aid the construction of a women and children's health clinic.
"I had gone four years to Michigan State University. I don't think I was that stupid, but I had never heard that word. I hooked up with some people in Cleveland, found out what these funny v-words meant, and started making changes in my diet. My health improved," Brown said.
During Homecoming 2002, however, a group of men, none of whom were students or alumni, followed Kane back to her room and sexually assaulted her. The combination of this event and family problems convinced Kane to take a medical leave. This term is her first back at Dartmouth.

Dartmouth's Figure Skating team took first place in the first of two national qualifying competitions held at Boston University on Feb. 17 and 18. The top three teams from each division will compete in the National Intercollegiate Figure Skating Team Championships, to be held at Dartmouth in April. The team was awarded five points toward qualifying for the national competition, while 33 out of 35 starting skaters earned points. Eight skaters won their individual events, three skaters won second place, and one skater won third place in two separate events. Some 20 teams competed in the competition, and the University of Delaware and Boston University won second and third place, respectively. Those who placed first in their events were Sarah Alexander '10, Rachel Bloch '07, Tenley Brownwright '10, Hallie Damon '08, co-captain Nicole Newman '08, Holly Ponichtera '07, Tegan Vay '07 and Sarah Zimbler '09. According to team member Kate Schmidt '09 -- who, along with graduate student Cynthia Chen and Holly Ponichtera '07, placed second in their events -- Chen Katherine Kalaris '07 skated a "clean program" in the junior ladies' free skate, and Nicole Newman '08 landed second in the senior ladies' short and long programs. Dan Dittrick '08 ended up with two third places. This year's finals will be held at the College on April 14 and 15 at Thompson Arena.
Beginning Monday, all bananas sold at Home Plate will be ones certified as "fair trade," a change that resulted from collaboration between Dartmouth Ends Hunger and Dartmouth Dining Services. The price of Home Plate bananas will rise from 75 to 85 cents, but the other dining venues on campus will still offer non-fair trade bananas at the original price.
