Like many of our peers, we keep a mental list of all of the big things we need to accomplish at Dartmouth and beyond. Due to this ambitious mental life list, we often think of ourselves as being destined for greatness. College graduation used to seem like a respectable deadline, so one of the strangest things about senior winter has been coming to terms with how far we are from our lofty goals.

Whether making the pilgrimage back to Hanover to see campus in full winter swing or to participate in College-sponsored alumni events, alumni flock to the College for Carnival weekend each year. Dartmouth Club of the Upper Valley president Dimitri Gerakaris ’69 sees the weekend as a celebration for the whole community.

In life, you will be faced with many questions. Some are big – is there a God? What is justice? Should I stay in bed or go to my 9L? Some are small – what should I get for breakfast? Which Instagram filter should I use on the millionth picture I’ve taken of Baker Tower covered in snow? Tree or shrub?

To be honest, I have no idea why I thought I was qualified to write anything about the Super Bowl. I know nothing about the teams playing (for those still unsure of the names, this year it’s the Denver Broncos versus the Seattle Seahawks), nor do I really understand the rules of football. But I still usually watch some of the game every year, so here are my Super Bowl tips for those who feel the same way I do.

First-world problems had never been so relevant until a week ago, when I took my phone out of my pocket and realized with horror that it would not turn on. After several frantic hours of trying to charge and defrost it, I finally threw it against a wall, gave up and mailed the thing home to get it fixed. I woke up the next morning to a day that went something like this:

Welcome back, Dartmouth! To my column, that is. That's right, everybody — come one, come all, because Stuff Dartmouth Kids Like is back! (For all the '17s who don't know, this column is the best thing since the Drunkest Girls at the Party briefly blacked in each week to grace The Mirror with their words. I'm not explaining that one, look it up.) Promptly after strongarming the new Dartbeat editors into giving me precious column inches (just kidding, the Internet is infinite in this and all other moments), I sat down and penned all 20 of my columns, give or take, for the rest of my time here at Dartmouth.

Walking into my two-room triple this term to two barren, stripped beds stunned me. My home was missing my two best friends — there was no one there blasting music; the room wasn’t already a mess. I was forced to get ready to conquer my sophomore winter solo. I now have the most luxurious and spacious single on campus, but trying to fill up all the space by myself is going to be, well, a little lonely. The people whose clothes I would borrow, who hated waking up to my obnoxious sonic boom alarm and who enjoyed late night EBAs with me have left Hanover for Barcelona and Paris.

While sustainability may not be the first thing on your mind when grabbing coffee on a busy morning, bringing a reusable mug can help save the environment as you get your much-needed caffeine fix. A group of Dartmouth students is promoting the use of reusable mugs on campus by starting the “Mugs of Dartmouth” Instagram account this term.

Now, I will be the first to say that I am by no means tech-savvy. In fact, I’m quite terrible at it and if anything happens to any of my gadgets, my go-to method is to switch it on and off. If that doesn’t work, I go in to panic mode.

Fall sees the largest number of out-of-state visitors on group tours in New Hampshire, according to the New Hampshire Division of Travel and Tourism Development. The division announced that it expects 7.8 million visitors, 2 percent more than last year and the industry projects tourist spending of over $1 billion, an increase of 3 percent from last year. These numbers, from the Institute for New Hampshire Studies, take into account weather forecasts and spending patterns. The leaf peeping season generally runs from September to November. Upper Valley leaf peepers typically hail from Canada or New England, with many opting to travel in groups, tourism division communications manager Tai Freligh said. Hanover typically sees a spike in business during this season, and this year local hotels have been sold out and restaurants and businesses have been packed. The division's expectations for the number of visiting leaf peepers have been consistent with forecasts.

Game day hopes: awesome tailgate, tons of likes on my Instagram picture, one of the exclusive Mariano Rivera bobblehead dolls and, oh right, a win for the Yankees. It's interesting today how many fans care more about the social and commercial aspects of professional sports than the outcome of the game. After paying hundreds of dollars for a ticket into Yankee Stadium last week, thousands of fans missed four or more innings waiting in line for the late arriving figurines. It's ironic how upset fans were about "having" to miss so much of the game, when, in fact, it was of their own volition to sacrifice watching in order to wait in line for the doll.

Dartmouth's presence has increased dramatically in recent years and now includes official pages on Google+, Flickr and Youtube and the big three: Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Reaching out to alumni, current and prospective students and anyone else who might be interested, these forms of social media are updated daily. A team of three, headed by digital content director Martin Grant in the Office of Public Affairs, is behind the informative posts, photos and videos.

Sometimes I drink out of Mason jars and shop at thrift stores. I take notes in Moleskines. I study in Periodicals. I started using Instagram before it was cool (circa December 2011), and I'm not ashamed to admit my first Instagrammed photo was of my cat laying in a gift box with ribbons on her head, filtered through "Low-fi." I use Spotify to listen to Bands You've Never Heard Of Surgeons In Heat, anyone? However, I've never pickled anything, don't have thick-rimmed glasses and have never used a typewriter or tried to distill my own whiskey. I don't even like whiskey.
