For seven long years, NBC's "The Office" has been a cornerstone of primetime comedy. With a phenomenal cast of characters and brilliantly written episodes, the series never failed to entertain. With a unique blend of physical comedy, emotionally touching story arcs and humor so awkward it makes you cringe with laughter.

In purely quantitative terms, cable programming dominates broadcast TV. The amount of airtime occupied by cable-exclusive shows towers over primary network programming from CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX and PBS and overshadows their combined production almost 100-fold. Despite the substantial viewership of cable series, the fact still remains most cable shows are unadulterated crap. Cable networks are unrivaled at pumping out hour after hour of garbage, entirely devoid of a single redeeming second and unworthy of even a moment's attention. A prime example of this trend can be found in the History Channel's reality series "Pawn Stars," the most-watched show on cable.

Such was the premise of this year's "Comedy Awards," a two-hour awards show that aired on Comedy Central this past Sunday. The biggest names in humor took to the stage in recognition of their talents in an entertainment industry that tends to honor serious performances with the greatest praise and accolades. With such a phenomenal lineup of funny people all packed into one room, it's no surprise that the ceremony was a comedic hit.

Tigers. Riding on surfboards. This is the entire premise of the website, which features countless images of the majestic beasts hanging 10 as they catch some totally epic waves. Image captions (giving the tigers names such as "Dazzleberry" or "Muffins") give an added touch of character to the otherwise stunning photos. If you want to kill anywhere between five and 60 minutes of time, swing by the site. But I'm, like, 75 percent sure the pictures are photoshopped.

As Dartmouth enters the Spring midterm season, students begin scouring the web for the best procrastination aids available. At the top of that list is "Pandemic II," a global domination strategy game in which players control the evolution of a deadly virus, bacteria or parasite. The game is grim and perverse, as well as incredibly addictive and quite challenging. Players build up their disease's strength while attempting to infect the entire globe, country by country, and whether or not you should use your hard-earned evolution points to invest in drug resistance, waterborne transmission or dementia symptoms is always a tough choice. Nothing takes your mind of studying better than infecting the entire globe with a disease. And while it may take a bit longer to catch on to than, say, "Robot Unicorn Attack," it's much more rewarding in the end.

There is no better way to get laughs online than by simultaneously parodying both contemporary rap music and classic science fiction. CollegeHumor's recent spoof, "Galactic Empire State of Mind," co-written by Owen Parsons '08, does just that. The latest in a string of "Empire State of Mind" parodies such as local favorite "Granite State of Mind" offers a recap of the original "Star Wars" trilogy set to the Jay-Z chart-topper. The result is a video with remarkable production value, incredible vocals (featuring Darth Vader and Princess Leia as lead singers) and hilarious lyrics brimming with "Star Wars" puns. With break-dancing Ewoks and an appropriate amount of Moff Tarkin references (just one), "Galactic Empire State of Mind" sets a new standard for online parodies.

Normally, I would not object to this cheap genre of humor. When the humor is comprised almost entirely of penis jokes, however, I begin to question whether or not viewing the film was a smart decision.

"It's Always Sunny" follows the ridiculous antics of five raunchy Philadelphians called "the gang." The group includes four twenty-somethings, along with Danny DeVito as the father to two of the half-wits.

I can't even remember the last time I was available to watch "Community" or "Glee" on the night it actually aired.

Quality programming was never hard to come by in the 1990s. From "Friends" to "Frasier" to "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air," the lineup of unforgettable series was endless. At the backbone of the decade's astonishing programming was an incredible collection of stars.

Television is a grab bag of highs and lows. Some shows are unfortunately abysmal. Other programs are of the standard caliber, consistently meeting expectations and delivering genuine content. Then there are those few series that stand far above the rest, wowing viewers into television-induced ecstasy and making an everlasting imprint on the watching world. One of these shows is "MythBusters."

Although the 2008-2009 season marked the end of Jay Leno's tenure on "The Tonight Show" a decision that was announced four years ago Leno had intimated in the last few years that he had changed his mind and was not ready to end his long career in television just yet.

The FOX network has long been synonymous with its animated sitcoms, and these classic shows had an enormous impact on my childhood development. I can vividly remember purchasing "Futurama" on DVD in protest after the show's cancellation, awkwardly watching the credits of "King of the Hill" before the start of the next show and even deciding not to read Shakespeare's "Hamlet" because I had recently observed an abridged adaptation courtesy of "The Simpsons."

There is nothing more invigorating than a fall television premiere, especially after a drab summer season lacking in fresh programming. NBC's Thursday night lineup this week helped freshen things up.

Computer graphics have become a staple of modern cinema. Few movies are released without CGI, and many recent computer-animated films such as "Wall-E" (2008) and "Up" (2009) are favorites of our generation.

I am personally a huge fan of Tarantino's signature gory scenes and colorful action sequences. So I couldn't help but be disappointed when Tarantino's newest endeavor, the World War II film "Inglourious Basterds," failed to deliver two full hours of non-stop brutality, as the film's previews had led me to expect. Yet despite this unsettling letdown, I still feel the need to argue on the movie's behalf "Inglourious Basterds" (2009) is phenomenal. It is an intriguing and genuine dramedy. And, despite the lack of gore, not a second went by that I was not thoroughly entertained.
