Following a 24-hour voting period, Ikenna Nwafor ’27 and Margaret “Maggie” de la Fuente ’27 were elected as the next student body president and vice president, respectively, according to an email sent to campus this evening by the Elections Planning and Advisory Committee.
Nwafor and de la Fuente defeated presidential candidate Sudiptha “Sud” Paul ’27 and vice presidential candidates Julia Zichy ’27 and Thomas Mitchell ’27. According the email from EPAC, Nwafor earned 1,112 votes while Paul received 777 votes. de la Fuente won with 678 while Zichy received 660 votes and Mitchell received 457 votes.
The president-elect and vice president-elect ran on a platform of bridging the gap between the student body and DSG, restructuring DSG committees and expanding dining options on the weekends.
A total of 1,960 ballots were cast in Dartmouth Student Government elections, according to EPAC’s email. Voting took place electronically from Monday, April 27 at 5 p.m. until Tuesday, April 28 at 5 p.m.
In an statement to The Dartmouth, Nwafor and de la Fuente wrote that they “are grateful to every student who voted and believed in our campaign.”
“We look forward to engaging administrators, faculty, staff and students to turn these priorities into results,” they wrote. “From day one, we will hit the ground running and advocate relentlessly for what students have asked for.”
Runner-up presidential candidate Sud Paul wrote in a statement for The Dartmouth that he was “proud of Ikenna and Maggie.”
“I’m also so happy that I ran with Julia, she was the best running mate and we’ll be friends for the rest of my life,” Paul wrote.
In class elections, students elected Gemma Stowell ’27 as senior class president and her running-mate Ajayda Griffith ’27 as senior class vice president, with 488 and 471 votes, respectively.
Students also elected class council executives and house senators.
The 2027 class council executives will be Miriam Bowman ’27, Tejas Kurkure ’27 and Loralei Foregette ’27. The 2028 class council executives will be Vincent Castillo ’28, Maire Crooks ’28, Revati Nargund ’28, Benjamin Perry ’28 and Ivy Wydler ’28. The 2029 class council executives will be Jacob Berry ’29, Jordan Conrad ’29, Anna Hummel ’29, Cian Monroe ’29 and Izzy Rea ’29.
The 2027 general house senators will be Tamia Kelly ’27 and Samay Sahu ’27. The 2028 general house senators will be Ana Arzoumanidis ’28 and Taha Tariq ’28. The 2029 general house senators will be Issa Allison ’29 and Trace Ribble ’29.
The Allen House, West House and 2027 South House senators will be announced at a later date, once EPAC verifies write-in candidates.
The 2027 and 2029 East Wheelock House, North Park and School House senators are also pending verification due to write-ins. The 2028 East Wheelock senator is Honiely Aviles ’28. The 2028 North Park senator is Maia Bazo Vergara ’28. The 2028 School House senator is Hanna Bilgin ’28. The 2028 South House senator is Jason Zhu ’28 and the 2029 South House Senator is Isla Walker ’29.
Mitchell and Zichy did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
