To the Editor:
The Dartmouth published a full-page ad paid for by Joe Asch '79 calling on his opponents in the upcoming trustee election to cooperate with him, campaign together, save money and donate the excess to the College. What a saint!
This is so self-serving it is beyond comprehension. The only reason there will be any expense at all is because Mr. Asch has inserted himself into the fray. The other two candidates have been thoroughly vetted by an elected committee of alumni volunteers serving on the Dartmouth Alumni Council and there is absolutely no reason for Mr. Asch to enter the contest except to satisfy his ego. He brings no particular expertise to the Board and Dartmouth gains nothing by his participation in the process.
How about this? Mr. Asch, you drop out of the race, let the two nominated candidates take their seats and you can contribute your entire proposed expenditure to the College or not. And, as a bonus, you will be free to continue to harass the College to your heart's content.
