In Good Faith

To the Editor:

In response to "Spineless Students" by Jordan Osserman '11 (Feb. 11), I would like to clarify that I absolutely think the staff's voice ought to be heard. I absolutely agree that questions need to be asked. However, there is a right way and a wrong way to go about it.

What Will Hix '12 and I were advocating was dealing with the issue on amiable terms, in a non-confrontational manner. As it turns out, that's exactly what happened, in a discussion between the Administration and the Student Budget Advisory Committee.

As for the difficulty to detect "good faith" in the budget cuts, I would only like to point out that College President Jim Yong Kim has fought to improve, even save, countless lives. He does not strike me as the kind of man who would look to layoffs as the solution without realistically considering other options first.

We should all be grateful for the concern that Osserman expresses; however, we would be best served by positive collaboration so that we can move forward as a community, as the Dartmouth community, which we all cherish and are seeking to maintain through the preservation of staff jobs.
