Praising Support for International Education

To the Editor:

I was pleased to read the coverage of the recent summit meeting between many college and university presidents (including President Wright) and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice ("Wright attends summit piloted by Pres. Bush," Jan. 9).

Dartmouth College indeed furthers the causes of international education and cultural exchange on a daily basis, not only through its strong foreign study programs, as President Wright points out, but also through the hosting of 1,700 foreign national students, scholars, faculty and staff each year.

The willingness of the Secretaries of State and Education to propose significant programs to further support both study abroad and foreign students and scholars' access to U.S. higher education is certainly encouraging. We hope that these programs are implemented and supported at an appropriate financial level as well by the Departments of State and Education. Thanks for this article!
