To the Editor:
In Pamela Hairston's Nov. 13 letter to The Dartmouth ("Overdue Reparations") she failed to mention that so-called "white" America has provided countless benefits to African-Americans through programs such as affirmative action, welfare and special scholarship programs. The idea of paying blacks for their losses is the ultimate stupidity. If the African-Americans deserve payment in retribution, then I deserve payment for discrimination by Anglo-Saxon Protestant that refused to treat my Irish Catholic ancestors equally. It's morally wrong for African-Americans to request special treatment when so many other peoples have come to this great nation and become equal members of society without a big government check.
