Don't Expel Brothers

To the Editor:

Mark Pruner '77, in his letter to the editor in the March 2 issue of The Dartmouth, expresses views that are greatly disturbing to any free-thinking individual. One of the major points of joining a fraternity or sorority (or even going to college) is to meet different people. Different people have differing views. This is a basic fact of life. I'm sorry, Mr. Pruner, you're just going to have to live with that. There are people in my own fraternity whose views I consider to be unacceptable. However, I have learned to deal with that. I suggest that he do the same.

One cannot ask a group to discipline or "remove" their members because of their views. Although I am unfamiliar with Psi Upsilon fraternity's stated ideology, my own fraternity is based on different personalities meeting, conflicting and resolving conflict, and expelling brothers based on their beliefs would run contrary to all we stand for. Along the same lines, although I consider Mr. Pruner's views to be fascist, even un-American, I don't think the Federal government should revoke his citizenship.
