Police respond to Food Court call

Hanover Police responded to a hostile employee situation at Thayer Dining Hall yesterday, and in a separate incident, computers stolen from Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center were recovered in the woods of Plainfield, N.H.

According to Hanover Police Chief Nick Giaccone, police were called at 1:26 p.m. to respond to a Thayer employee, who upon learning of his dismissal, engaged in verbal sparring.

While the man expressed his heated temper verbally, "outside of him being upset, there were no threats," Giaccone said.

Director of Dartmouth Dining Services Tucker Rossiter said the employee was a temporary kitchen worker who became upset after Rossiter told him he was being let go.

"No one was in danger or threatened, but he was getting upset, and we wanted to make sure he would leave the building before anything happened," Rossiter said.

Rossiter said Safety and Security was notified to ensure his exit from the premises, but he was not aware that the police would respond also.

Police stopped and spoke to the employee near the Hanover Inn after he had exited Thayer, but no further police intervention was taken.

In other news, Giaccone said a couple of computers stolen from DHMC, which coincided with a rash of computer thefts in Robinson Hall, have been recovered outside in the woods in Plainfield by a passerby late last week.

While Giaccone said the Lebanon Police Department is investigating the case, authorities believe the criminal or group responsible is the same as the perpetrators who stole the computers from Robinson.

The Robinson Hall thefts occurred on three separate instances during the week of Jan. 17 from the student offices on the first floor of Robinson Hall.

A total of five computers, including a new iMac and a high-end, graphite iMac were stolen, along with a printer and a telephone. Three of these computers have been recovered, but since these are evidence to the crime, they cannot be returned until the conclusions of any legal proceedings.

The police arrested a white male in his late twenties for the Robinson Hall computer thefts on Jan. 27.
