The Hanover Police are continuing to search for the man who robbed a woman at gunpoint early on Wednesday morning, March 12. The woman, who is in her early 20s, was walking home on West Wheelock Street when the robbery occurred.
According to a Hanover Police press release, the suspect, who was wearing a light colored sweatshirt and jeans, held the victim at gunpoint and demanded cash from her. After the woman had given him a small amount of cash, he fled west toward Vermont.
Detective-Sergeant Frank Moran told the Valley News the man pointed a handgun -- which may have been semi-automatic -- at her abdomen and then demanded money.
Moran told the Valley News he found it significant that the robbery occurred near the last houses before Ledyard Bridge and that the man was not wearing a coat, despite the cold weather.
The victim described the suspect as a slender-built Caucasian male in his late 20s to early 30s with dark blond to light brown hair and a mustache.
Shortly after the victim reported the crime at 12:24 a.m. early Wednesday morning, she provided details for the police to make a composite sketch of the suspect.
The College's Safety and Security has posted composite sketches on bulletin boards of residence halls and public College buildings in order to "make the campus aware of the incidents that occur within the community," Safety and Security Crime Prevention Officer Rebel Roberts said.
Roberts said crime prevention programs are in place to prevent incidents like this from occurring in the future. Escort services as well as van ride services are available to students who feel they need it, she said.
The police encourage anyone with information about this crime to contact Moran at the Hanover Police Department.
