Sixteen-day Winter Carnival sees low initial engagement, adapted programming

As Dartmouth’s Winter Carnival celebration enters its third and final week, students can attend an interactive event showcasing alumni in the gaming industry or head to the Bema to see a light and sound show, among other programming opportunities. Despite seeing initially low engagement, the extended 16-day, video game-inspired carnival has brought many students online or outside to celebrate.

College’s Black Legacy Month to celebrate achievements, leadership of Black women

The College’s Black Legacy Month celebration will kick off Tuesday night with a virtual ceremony highlighting Black culture through poetry, song and art. Throughout February, Black Legacy Month events, which will include community forums and leadership spotlights, will aim to amplify and recognize the Black community on campus and around the country.

Dartmouth engineering students win award at NASA’s BIG Idea Challenge

A team of Dartmouth engineering students won the award for best technical paper in NASA’s Breakthrough, Innovative and Game-changing Idea Challenge, or “BIG Idea Challenge.” Their winning idea proposed lunar space exploration robots that can connect with other rovers when stuck on rough terrain.

This year's light display took place on Gold Coast lawn. 


Dartmouth celebrates Diwali

This past Saturday, Hindus, Sikhs, Jains and other religious groups around the world celebrated the holiday of Diwali. On campus, Dartmouth’s Hindu student organization Shanti celebrated with a prayer and a celebration, though the event was notably smaller this year due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Election Week Blues: Students Reflect on Politics, Classes and Community

During election week, many Dartmouth students struggled to cope with an extended period of uncertainty. As they waited for ballots to slowly trickle in, students also had to manage the stress that comes with week eight of fall term. Some relied on friends and avoided social media to manage anxiety, while others found comfort in staying informed on vote counts. And while some students are hopeful about the future, others remain worried.

Local Election Day voting proceeds smoothly, Hanover turnout matches 2016

Carefully planned COVID-19 guidelines ensured smooth in-person voting experiences on Election Day in Hanover and surrounding towns. Aside from early morning lines, wait times did not differ significantly from previous years, even with precautions such as temperature checks and voting booth sanitization.
