This year's Winter Carnival takes us back in time to the beginning years of this winter weekend with the theme "The Roaring -20s." The Dartmouth celebrates the 88th anniversary of Winter Carnival with this special issue. As a celebration of winter, from the polar bear swim to races at the Skiway, Winter Carnival gives Dartmouth students an opportunity to take advantage of the outdoors. Through its many traditions,Winter Carnival continues to be an integral part of the Dartmouth experience.

This term's Montgomery Fellow, Lord Roy Jenkins of Hillhead, has distinguished himself in various fields, from politics to academia, and is the embodiment of the quintessential Englishman. Jenkins's appearance is captivating.
Ten years ago today, the College was thrust into the national political spotlight when Gary Hart -- a contender for the 1988 Democratic presidential nomination -- made his first appearance in front of reporters since a published report alleged he was having an extramarital affair with actress-model Donna Rice. Hart was scheduled to deliver a speech on American foreign policy in Alumni Hall as part of his campaign through New Hampshire, where he sought to cultivate support for the 1988 state Democratic presidential primary. But just days before his scheduled appearance, The Miami Herald published a story saying he spent the previous weekend at his Washington D.C.
Five-day event kicks off with performance by guitarist Negrete
Following a lengthy internal debate and a five-month search for a national sorority with which to affiliate, the 17 members of Delta Pi Omega sorority have decided to remain local for the time being. Earlier this month, Delta Pi decided against affiliation with Alpha Xi Delta, a national sorority.
On Friday night, on the twenty-fifth anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s assassination, Anna Deavere Smith combined her talents as an educator, actress, playwright, and journalist in a dramatic performance in Spaulding auditorium titled "Snapshots: Glimpses of America in Change." Her brilliant lecture was centered around race relations in the United States -- the social and economic issues that surround racial and ethnic conflict in our country. Noreen Nilan '99 commented that she "thought Smith was a dynamic, powerful performer.
