Correcting misconceptions

To the Editor: A letter on July 6 ("A Positive First Step") states that the Fall 2006 election of officers for the Association of Alumni has been canceled -- this has also been stated in other places, but it is not true.

Approaching the Alumni Constitution

To the Editor: I hope that the letter byAndrew Getraer '86 ("Disingenuous Behavior," Oct. 3) does not represent how most alumni will approach the discussion and voting on the proposed new alumni constitution.Andrew seems to have made his mind up, but a few things need to be clarified for anyone else interested in this topic. First, "Changing the Rules" was not an article, it was an opinion piece byJoseph Asch '79.I would encourage alumni to read the proposal themselves and not rely on someone else's interpretation, it deserves thoughtful consideration and an informed debate. Second, the constitutional reform started by the Association of Alumni and the Alumni Council began before the recent election of petition candidates to the Board of Trustees.

Preserve the Election's Integrity

To the Editor: Joe Malchow's column ("Savor the Victory," May 16) makes me believe that there is not much of anything to savor in the the recent trustee election. If Dartmouth has been reduced to one side "winning" over the other amidst triumphant rhetoric, then we have all lost. In debates like that, all that matters is winning and the real issues get lost in that pursuit.

If You Want Coed, Go Coed

To the Editor: Abbye Meyer's letter, "A Question Of Nondiscrimination" in the May 14th issue of The Dartmouth demands to know why the Greek system at Dartmouth is a "single-sex system in spite of our nondiscrimination policy." First, it is not exclusively a single-sex system.

Administration Has Ignored Current Coed Houses

To the Editor: While reading all the coverage and commentary on President Wright's announcement of the new residential initiative, it would have been easy for someone unfamiliar with Dartmouth to assume that all Greek organizations at Dartmouth are single-sex. But the reality is that the "C" in CFS stands for coed, and there are organizations in the Greek system that have been coed since the 1970s. I am disappointed that the remarks from the President and the Trustees say nothing about the exisiting coed organizations on campus.
