Statistical Phrasing of Greek Support Inaccurate

To the Editor: I noticed that on page 3 of your November 1 issue that you once again quoted your own poll of February 1999 stating that "A resounding 83 percent of the campus said they were in favor of continuing single-sex fraternities and sororities." If you look back at the issue in which this was first reported, I think you will find only about 50 percent of the students polled actually responded.

Let's See Some Alternatives

To the Editor: In your editorial of February 16th, I disagree with your characterization that I am "confused." In addition, it is hardly fair to characterize my comments as "ignorant" in light of Trustee Kate Stith-Cabranes '73 quote in an article that ran the same day which read "the complete elimination of the Greek system was not something the five principles in any way require." That is exactly what I was trying to articulate to Dave Coleman '97 in my private e-mail to him.

Article Downplayed the Success of THis Year's Alumni Fund Phonathaon

To the Editor: On behalf of the 1998 Alumni Fund interns, I wanted to comment on your article on this year's Student Phonathon ["Donations down for Alumni Fund drive," January 16]. Although it was great to have The Dartmouth cover what is an important annual event for Dartmouth and the Alumni Fund, it was disappointing to see that you seemed to paint the program and its results in a bad light. The headline was completely wrong.
