Baseball looks to defend Ivy League title this weekend

Anna Gaissert / The Dartmouth Staff Anna Gaissert / The Dartmouth Staff The Dartmouth baseball team will compete in the Ivy League Championship Series for the third consecutive season this weekend in hopes of besting Columbia University and earning an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. Dartmouth (23-15, 13-7 Ivy) qualified for the series by winning the regular season Red Rolfe division title and enters the series as the defending conference champion. Columbia (25-19, 14-6), meanwhile, returns to the Championship series for the first time since winning the overall title in 2008.

Big Green takes on Sevens tourney

Jennifer Argote / The Dartmouth Senior Staff Jennifer Argote / The Dartmouth Senior Staff The Dartmouth men's rugby team has begun training for the inaugural Rugby Sevens Collegiate Championship Invitational, which will take place at Columbus Crew Stadium in Columbus, Ohio, from June 4-6. Sevens is a variation of traditional rugby that features only seven players on each side the usual number is 15 and two halves of seven minutes each.

Equestrian ends season with third place finish at home event

The Dartmouth equestrian team finished its season on a high note, winning the Ivy League Championships, held two weekends ago, and placing third out of six at the Dartmouth Classic, held this past weekend at the Dartmouth Riding Center. In the Ivy League Championship held at the Dartmouth Riding Center, the Big Green topped Cornell University and Brown University, who placed second and third, respectively. The team swept first place in the entire open division and had six first place winners in 13 different shows overall.

Last week, I chatted with a couple of Dartmouth baseball pitchers who made the bold claim that the members of the pitching squad are the best athletes on the field.


After losing the first two games of a four-game series to Harvard, the Big Green baseball rallied on Sunday, winning the third game 9-0 and the fourth 9-7.

Women's rowing wins, men lose

Nicholas Root / The Dartmouth Staff Nicholas Root / The Dartmouth Staff In their last regattas before the Eastern Sprints, the women's rowing team bested Cornell University, while the men's heavyweight team fell to the University of Wisconsin and the men's lightweight team lost a nail-biter to the Big Red. The women (12-2, 3-2 Ivy), who raced in Hanover, had one of their best races of the season, as Cornell is traditionally a solid team. "Every boat got faster, and that was pretty exciting," captain Sarah Alexander '10 said.
