It's happening again. American sports fans have fallen for another athlete. Tim Tebow took over the sporting world at the tail end of 2011, but 2012 has brought about a new phenomenon.

Hollisto's World

For the first time in my life, I actually want it to snow. I want a freak cold front to take the Upper Valley by storm and dump at least six inches of snow in the next six hours.

Women's swimming wins a pair

|

Samantha Oh / The Dartmouth Staff In the first of two non-league meets this weekend, the Big Green women's swimming and diving team displayed tremendous depth, as it secured wins against both Northeastern University and the University of Rhode Island on Saturday. In the 16-event dual meet, hosted by Northeastern in Boston, Mass., the Big Green rolled over Rhode Island, failing to win just one event en route to a 234-66 victory. The Huskies presented more of a challenge, with Dartmouth and Northeastern each taking first place in eight events. However, the Big Green's superior depth allowed it to secure the win over the Huskies, 171-129, bringing the squad's record to 9-3 (3-3 Ivy). Now sporting a 9-3 record after the weekend's two wins, the Dartmouth women are in contention for "most successful women's winter sports team," Christine Kerr '14 said. With a preseason goal of winning all of its non-conference meets, the Big Green had high expectations heading into Saturday's dual meet. "This was one of the big meets for the girls who aren't competing at Ivy Championships," co-captain Galen Barry '12 said.

Men's hockey goes winless on road

|

Christina Chen / The Dartmouth The Dartmouth men's hockey team had a frustrating weekend on the road, fighting for a 3-3 tie with Princeton University (7-10-6, 5-8-3 ECAC) and losing 2-1 to Quinnipiac University (14-9-5, 6-6-4 ECAC). The Big Green fell into a seventh place tie in the ECAC with Yale with only six games remaining before the ECAC Tournament at the beginning of March. Dartmouth defeated both Princeton and Quinnipiac at home earlier this season, beating the Bobcats 5-4 on Nov.

|

Yomalis Rosario / The Dartmouth Staff Maggie Rowland / The Dartmouth Senior Staff Following a string of second-place finishes to the University of Vermont early in the carnival circuit, the Dartmouth ski team soundly defeated the host Catamounts and everyone else this weekend at the Vermont Carnival in Stowe, Vt., demonstrating the Big Green has what it takes to contend for an NCAA title. The Big Green won the carnival with a team score of 916 points.

Winter Carnival has crept up on everyone at Dartmouth and I'm sure many are surprised that it is actually February.

1-on-1 with Joey Maziar '14

|

This week I got a chance to sit down with Joey Maziar '14 of the men's golf team to discuss golf, nicknames and grass in the Northeast. When did you first start playing golf? JM: I played baseball for most of my childhood, but I was fairly short and weak compared to the other kids, so the bigger kids improved and I didn't.
