As the term begins to come to a close, there's a set of grades other than my own that I'm not looking forward to seeing the class medians. Unfortunately, there isn't a way I can avoid seeing them while checking my own grades since the two appear next to one another online. Even worse, I won't be able to hide them from graduate schools several years from now. This elevates the dilemma that Dartmouth students face when selecting classes whether to take the easy A or venture into a difficult but intriguing subject that truly interests them. Though the inclusion of median grades on transcripts may have been intended to combat grade inflation at Dartmouth, the reality is that it has furthered the rat race into post-graduate admissions, making students relive the disingenuous process of getting into college ("Living a Lie," April 15).

The Legends would like to say goodbye to spring and welcome back the snow. Fratzatoni Phil didn't see his shadow this year on Webster Ave., which means that spring was only going to last for two weeks. Oh well, at least we can reference the mean snowplow driver from "Snow Day" again. And again.

If you have ever met John Boger '13, you would know "absolutely insane" would not begin to describe him. More commonly known as "Jack, J. Boge or Broger," he has a vivacious personality that stands in stark contrast to his put-together wardrobe.

If you're sick of hearing toupee-donning, pudge-packing sports announcers boast of their latest tweet, or if you're ashamed to admit that both Grammy Gladys and your cousin's guinea pig have unusually scandalous Facebook albums, then you're well justified (and we should be friends).

Social networking sites allow us to connect with friends whether they are in the next room or the next hemisphere. As we become more dependent on these sites as common channels of communication, our social interactions become less and less personal. The average Facebook user has 130 friends on the site, according to statistics reported by the Facebook press room.

There are three things that any average sports fan has probably confidently claimed at some point in his or her life. The first is, "I could have made that catch!" The second is, "I just said that! I could be a commentator," and the third is, "So-and-So is an idiot, I could manage this team better than him."

Right off the bat (pun totally intended), congrats to the Dartmouth baseball team on winning the Ivy League title two weekends ago. After coming so close to the crown last season, the Big Green romped through the Ivy League schedule this year with superb hitting, and capped the year off with a convincing rout of Cornell to win the title series, two games to one.

A quick perusal of Wikipedia reveals that the usual spring break activities include "binge drinking, recreational drug use and casual sex," and indeed the words "spring break" conjure images of sand, sun, surf and fun.

Back to Hanover. Our current athletic director, Josie Harper, recently announced her plans to retire in June. There will be an interim AD appointed for the 2009-10 academic year as the College searches for a permanent replacement. Knapp and I won't be around as students by then, so we decided to come up with short wish lists of things we'd like to see changed at Dartmouth under the newest AD. I like Knapp's suggestions, especially the emphasis on a fan-friendly environment, but there's some other things that need to be addressed as well. Here's my three picks -- agree or disagree.

As the mercury continues its steady drop, the discerning Dartmouth fashion lover is forced to trade his or her impractical fripperies and fineries for the warmth of utilitarian winter gear. Fun, trendy items are replaced by boring, heavy duty gloves, hats, parkas and, of course, scarves.

While students consider undergraduate research opportunities, Dartmouth Dining Services and College traditions such as Homecoming to be particularly important to their Dartmouth experience, the Native American Program, the Office of Pluralism and Leadership and the Hood Museum of Art are deemed to be of lesser importance, according to a Student Assembly survey released late Thursday night. The survey, conducted online over interim, is intended to help the College decide which areas to target for budget cuts.
