Dartmouth men’s basketball has had a difficult 4-11 start to the season, but with almost a full slate of Ivy League Conference games left to play, and a fast-developing young core, the men are focusing their efforts on qualifying for the Ivy League Tournament at the Palestra, the home gym of the University of Pennsylvania.

Last season, it was impossible to talk about the men’s Nordic team without mentioning Fabian Stocek ’17 in the same breath. On a deep Big Green team with several skiers who would be top point-winners at other Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association schools, Stocek was in a league of his own, dominating the carnival circuit with eight wins in 12 races. As Dartmouth eyes the 2018 NCAA Championship, Stocek is the lone departure from team that represented Dartmouth at the 2017 championship and finished fourth.

Hanover has always been a haven for hockey, hosting several great teams including a few NCAA Frozen Four squads. Coming into the 2016-2017 season, expectations were high for Dartmouth’s men’s hockey. In the past few years, the Big Green has struggled, but the team’s goals never change. The Eastern College Athletic Conference is yet again loaded with top ranking teams, both Ivy and non-Ivy League, but the veteran core of the Big Green is determined to make some noise in the conference this year. After going to the ECAC semifinals two years ago, the Big Green is hungry for more.

Before my first Dartmouth winter, I’d seen snow exactly four times. Five if you count the only time it snowed in my lifetime in San Francisco: Dec. 20, 1998, (the day that holds my first memory). I’m two years old at the park with my grandma (Nana to us, although she tried to convince me to call her Aunt Birdy until I was five) and a few glorious snowflakes fall from the sky.

The air’s getting colder, the sun’s setting earlier and the library’s getting more crowded — it must be ~finals szn~. Even though the beautiful fall leaves are gone and we might not see the sun again until June, at least your study space doesn’t have to be as grim as the weather! After scouring the campus for the best study spots, I’ve collected the definitive guide to the least grim study spots to get you through finals szn and those winter woes.

Varsity athletes make up around 21 percent of the undergraduate student body, and given how prevalent Greek life is on campus, it comes as no surprise that Dartmouth athletes are heavily involved in Dartmouth’s Greek scene. Notably, 78.5 percent of varsity athletes eligible to rush are affiliated in Greek houses, in comparison to the student body average of 65%. For some sports teams, athletes choose to rush the same house as most of their teammates. On others, athletes are members of many different Greek houses, if they choose to be affiliated at all. There are vast differences in house variety for men’s and women’s sports teams, likely relating to the difference in their respective Greek rush structures. The Dartmouth took a closer look at Greek affiliation trends among varsity sports teams and the reason behind why athletes rush together or why they don’t.
