Kevin Gibson, who had served as the women's golf head coach for 14 seasons, resigned on Tuesday, according to a press release by Rick Bender, director of varsity athletic communications. Gina Yoder has served as the Big Green's acting head coach since Gibson went on medical leave in early April.

Many varsity sports teams in-season in the fall may be affected by the shifting dates of the new academic calendar, which in the 2012-2013 year will be altered so that Fall term begins a few days earlier and ends before Thanksgiving. As most playoff seasons take place during the week before Thanksgiving, they will coincide with the new finals period.

Despite the Dartmouth softball team's disappointing end to its season, third-baseman and catcher Molly Khalil '12 excelled as an offensive force, hitting six home runs and 27 RBIs and achieving a .294 batting average this year.

Peter Bogardus '51 Tu'52 a recipient of Dartmouth's Alumni Award and an accomplished former member of the Big Green football and rugby teams died at his home in Mill Valley, Calif., on April 18 after suffering a massive heart attack in his sleep, his son Peter Bogardus, Jr. '87 said in an interview with The Dartmouth. He was 81.

As one of the most accomplished athletes in Dartmouth's history, Cameron Myler '92 is a four-time Olympian, holds seven U.S. National Championship titles and is considered the most successful American woman in luging. Despite her storied career, Myler who once carried the U.S. flag at the Olympic Opening Ceremonies in Lillehammer, Norway in 1994 is now making headlines with her recent interest in art.

While Stanford University's athletic department was recently implicated for encouraging athletes to take easy classes through a "Courses of Interest" list, Dartmouth's athletic department does not maintain a list of easy class offerings for in-season Big Green athletes, Athletic Director Harry Sheehy said in an interview with The Dartmouth.

When the Connecticut River where the Dartmouth men's crew tream trains in warmer months is covered in ice, Big Green rowers take to an indoor machine called the ergometer, or erg, to practice and test their speed. Lightweight rower Josh Konieczny '13 recently broke the Dartmouth record for the 2,000-meter distance the standard distance at indoor competitions on the erg with a time of 6:13.4, according to Konieczny.

Despite the ice that still covers its practice lake, the Dartmouth sailing team has begun its preparations for the spring season. The Big Green hopes to carry momentum from last spring, when it ended its season in a disappointing fashion and fell short of qualifying for the Collegiate National Championships.

I sat down with women's hockey goaltender Lindsay Holdcroft '14, who delivered the fourth shutout of her rookie season on Saturday, saving 18 shots against Ivy League foe Princeton University. At 66.7 percent, Holdcroft holds the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference's third-best winning percentage and a 2.10 goals against average.

While other toddlers were learning to walk, sisters Sophie Caldwell '12 and Isabel Caldwell '14 were already getting their footing on skis by participating in "lollipop races," an event in which younger children completed miniature ski courses and received a lollipop prize at the finish line. The Caldwell sisters Big Green skiers who grew up in Peru, Vt. have since progressed past their days of "lollipop racing." Both sisters list a number of impressive skiing achievements and have travelled around the world for competitions.

The Big Green women's basketball team could not secure a victory this weekend in the Blue Sky Classic, an annual home tournament, losing tough games to Kansas State University and Wagner College. The Big Green bounced back after the tournament, however, beating the College of the Holy Cross on Sunday afternoon with a 59-53 win.

With eight seconds remaining on the clock in the second overtime, the Big Green men's soccer team lost a spot in the Elite Eight of the Division I NCAA tournament with a goal from No. 8 seed University of California, Los Angeles. The teams battled for two 45-minute halves and nearly two 10-minute overtime periods, but UCLA junior midfielder Eder Arreola ended the Big Green's post-season, 2-1.
