The track and field teams of Columbia and Yale voyaged to the New England hinterlands this weekend to face the Big Green. Though the men faced a setback and were put down by the Bulldogs, the women shined to take first place.
The holiday weekend was witness to another decisive victory by the men's and women's track and field teams of Dartmouth College. Hosting the universities of New Hampshire and Vermont on the rubber track and Astroturf fields of Leverone Field House, the Big Green proved itself the greatest track program within, at minimum, a 100-mile radius of Hanover.
As the men's track and field team gears up for the indoor season, it is putting the finishing touches on its off-season training. And if the strength of the team and its off-season efforts are anything to go on, Dartmouth is shaping up to have a successful season.
Dartmouth's cross country teams brought their seasons to a respectable close on a crisp Saturday morning in New York City's Van Cortlandt Park. I don't find newspapers that enjoyable, and I'm lucky if I can pick up The Dartmouth a couple times a week and give it a quick read. The nation's top cross-country teams met in Terre Haute, Ind. on the LaVern Gibson championship course to establish early-season position at the NCAA Pre-Nationals. The weekend's results, however, may or may not reflect what will go down at Nationals in late November.
While the top seven male and female runners on the cross country team rested for Pre-Nationals next week in Indiana, the second squads had a strong showing when they raced this past Friday in Boston's Franklin Park at the New England Championships.
The Dartmouth cross country team split the squad and raced in two separate meets this past weekend, with three of the four teams in competition winning their respective races.
With some athletes resting for next weekend's IC4A and ECAC Championships, several Dartmouth athletes competed this past weekend in the New England Championships. The University of New Hampshire hosted the events on Saturday afternoon at the Reggie F. Atkins track and field facilities.
Dartmouth athletes from the men and women's track teams competed outstandingly, both at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia and an invitational that Dartmouth hosted at Memorial Field, in a final tune-up for the Heptagonal Championships next weekend.
The Dartmouth men's track and field team competed at two venues this past weekend. Many athletes traveled to Durham, N.H., to compete in the Outdoor Invitational hosted by the University of New Hampshire, while others went down to Miami University in Florida to enjoy fast times in great weather.
The tri-meet with Harvard and Brown last weekend was cancelled, but some of Dartmouth's track and field athletes went to Princeton instead to compete in the Sam Howell Invitational.
