Now don't get your discrimination-sensitive panties in a wad -- Means happens to be a humor writer with one sweet rsum. As an undergrad, he contributed humor columns and comic strips to The Dartmouth. After graduating from the College and obtaining his master's degree at King's College, Cambridge, Means has written for The Onion, Saturday Night Live's "Weekend Update" and, perhaps most notably, "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart." He also draws cartoons for The New Yorker. In 2006 Means won an Emmy for his writing on "The Daily Show," and he'll return to that gig now that the strike has ended. Case in point: He's one badass jokester.

A dance floor packed tight with flailing limbs and throbbing head-bangs can produce a more energetic atmosphere than an ADD-inflicted brain -- and when Girl Talk is behind the music, the crowd can expect nothing less. This Saturday, Alumni Hall will transform from the dull upstairs area of the Hopkins Center where all legitimate room draw nightmares are set into the performance venue for one of the hottest deejays in music today.

The tiny lights of FUEL will twinkle especially for the prospective members of the Class of 2011 this Friday, when Friday Night Rock will host both Enon and The Dirty Projectors. Potential incoming freshmen and their hosts are encouraged to partake in the craziness that FNR has come to offer regularly.

The '80s metal pop band has somewhere between 14 and 20 lead singers -- depending on who you ask -- and a few additional members who just play instruments. The whole gang will play Friday Night Rock's first spring show on Friday.

Starting tomorrow, Bob Dylan's words will flow freely through Dartmouth's academic atmosphere -- although, strangely enough, not through the music department. From Thursday through Sunday, the English department will host a conference celebrating the poetical value in Bob Dylan's collection of lyrics.

British guys don't have to try very hard to be attractive. They look like they never bathe, spit profanity into innocent conversation and clearly don't believe in the best dental hygiene -- still, we American girls swoon. Even the toilet-hugging heroin addicts in "Trainspotting" seem sexy.

Hoots and hollers could be heard from Collis porch Wednesday afternoon -- and the votes weren't done processing for the Student Assembly presidential race. The clamor was in celebration of the end of the Day of Silence, during which students protested the harassment experienced by gay and lesbian students by taking a day-long vow of muteness.

Surprising behavior is no longer surprising to Flaming Lips fans. Strange performances, eyebrow-raising costumes and unprecedented instrumental creations haven't waned over the band's 20-year lifespan, with its founding members now well into middle age. The band's slogan should be nothing less direct than "Expect the Unexpected."

A special wing of the Film Studies department is housed in the Studio Art building; students stumble in and out of Clement Hall with ink-splattered fingers and droopy eyes. You can easily pick out the animation students at the Hop this time of the term -- they slog into the cafe, grab a caffeinated item and plod back to their temporary home. Tonight, all their work comes together in one of the most popular student productions of the year.

Matt Hill: So I've got to admit, early on in the show last night I was actually afraid that I'd get every category right.

Vermont Public Radio is kind of my best friend. I had the brilliance to dedicate myself to animation as my film concentration, and VPR is all my ears can handle at four in the morning, after hundreds of drawings. It's safe to assume, however, that most students aren't stuck animating for 25 hours a week, and, when given the choice between rock and classical, there is no question as to which the average Dartmouth student would choose. VPR is slowly working to change that.

Meredith Fraser '08: So I woke up earlier this morning than I have in a long time ... to watch the Oscar nominations be announced. Whoa.

It's been a while since we last heard from the Strokes. Sure, drummer Fabrizio Moretti and his girlfriend Drew Barrymore have been tabloid regulars, but otherwise those stylish New York boys have been locked in their studio. But their third album, "First Impressions of Earth," was just released yesterday, ending the countdown to the Strokes' anticipated return.
