In the near future a 1,200-pound, antlered, hairy beast may be the rallying point for Dartmouth athletic teams. A recent survey by the Student Assembly found that nearly a third of Dartmouth students would like the moose to be the College's official mascot, making the moose the clear front runner in the Assembly's mascot search.

If history repeats itself again this fall, about 150 members of the Class of 2006 will give up on the waiting list and move to off-campus housing. Where and how these students should be housed is part of a complex conflict between Hanover citizens in areas of the town heavily populated with students, townspeople living north of campus, the College and the student body, that will come to a head at the annual Hanover town meeting on May 13.

Although cozy, snowy Hanover may seem the polar opposite of the sunny Greek isles and the thriving metropolis of ancient Rome, many Dartmouth buildings were inspired by these great civilizations. From the intimidating, powerful ambiance of Parkhurst Hall to Webster Hall's inspiring dome, little visions of Greece and Rome cover the campus.

The College is gearing up to go head to head with a group of Hanover residents who have proposed amendments to town zoning laws. College Provost Barry Scherr said the amendments -- which will be voted on at the annual Hanover Town Meeting on May 13th -- will impede construction of the planned life sciences complex, but petitioning citizens argue that the amendments will help ease transitions from residential to College zones.

With "Day I Forgot," Pete Yorn fails to avoid the dreaded sophomore curse. This second effort from this singer/instrumentalist who is a little bit Ryan Adams, a little bit Coldplay and a little bit John Mayer is a good album, but all of the songs could easily have been on his debut.

Yes, it is hard -- but not impossible -- to stop a moving train. In his presidency Janos Marton '04 -- who is in the rare position of being able to run for reelection as Student Assembly president -- has indeed proved unstoppable on several fronts, most notably achieving a dtente in the student-administration relationship. Several other speed bumps, such as student wages, budget shortfalls and tuition increases, have been more difficult issues than Marton may have anticipated.

Jeff Tweedy is working on his abs; he's working on himself, and it's working. Whether you think "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" was a sellout, a country-boy's "Kid A" or the best album of 2002, Wilco puts on a great show, and there concert in Burlington last Friday was no exception.
