This year, your wardrobe may get a little greener.
New Balance will release an Ivy League edition of its popular H710 sneaker as part of its spring 2011 collection, according to EU Kicks. The shoes sport the colors of each Ivy except for Cornell and Yale. The tongues bear the logo of a particular school while the sides, which are that school's color, have the familiar N logo of New Balance. The collection will include mid and low-cut versions of the sneakers.
The price for the shoes is currently listed as 7,460 Japanese yen, or roughly $90, on the site Mita Sneakers.
"Oh my gosh, I have to get them," Stuart Ghafoor '14 said after hearing about them. "It sounds ridiculous. I can't believe they're actually making them."
The company hasn't announced an official release date in the United States, but the shoes are expected to arrive in Japanese retailers in February, according to the website SneakerObsession.com.
Japan, in particular, has had a fashion obsession with the Ivy League since the 1970s, when the "all-American preppy style" was imported into the county, according to The New York Times. The trend has made a comeback recently, thanks to the Internet.
