Hot Take: Women’s basketball will break its five-game losing streak at home this Friday versus Brown University.

Madison Savoy | Team: Women’s Basketball | Event: Game against Brown | Date: Jan. 30

Despite losing their last five games, the squad was able to get 30-50 points on the board each time. Compared with the Bears' last five games, they were putting up between 40 and 60 points per game.

In the best performance of the last five games, against Cornell on Jan. 10, three players, Cate MacDonald ’27, Alexandra Eldredge ’27 and Zeynep Ozel ’28, put up points in the double digits. In the most recent game versus Columbia, the margin was wide, but Ozel led the team in scoring, almost tripling many of the other Dartmouth scorers. Be sure to hit Leede Arena this Friday at 6 p.m. to watch Ozel and the rest of the squad play for victory.

Hot Take: Dartmouth skiing will continue its reign at the Dartmouth Carnival

Isabelle Jensen | Team: Skiing | Event: Dartmouth Carnival | Date: Jan. 30-31

The Dartmouth ski team is leading the Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association for the 2026 season, and this weekend should only widen their margin of victory. For alpine skiing, Oscar Zimmer ’26 hasn’t missed the top five for giant slalom or slalom this season, and after a second-place GS finish last year, he could be looking to shave off a few extra seconds to claim the top podium spot. Emma Resnick ’26 had a few rough races last year but has been consistently in the top 10 this season and could easily dial in a few good runs this weekend.

The Dartmouth nordic team is looking to continue its reign of eight consecutive EISA victories this weekend on its home hills. Ava Thurston ’26 has been on a dominant run this year, securing three individual wins and one second-place finish. Last year, she won the individual race and finished fourth in the mass start. This is her last chance to secure a double victory, and there’s a good chance it works out. By Saturday night, the Big Green should be celebrating yet another victory.

Hot Take: Women’s ice hockey to win in overtime against Colgate University

Ava Politis | Team: Women’s ice hockey | Event: Game against Colgate | Date: Jan. 30-31

Women’s ice hockey’s struggles continued as they dropped both games this past weekend to Clarkson and St. Lawrence. To start this weekend, they will face Cornell who is ranked No. 12 in the nation. The Big Green will have trouble topping the fifth-best team in the Eastern Conference Athletic Conference, especially after Michaela Hesová ’28 left Hanover to play in the 2026 Winter Olympics. However, this past weekend, Dartmouth brought both games to overtime, alluding to the possibility that they will bring Colgate into overtime in upstate New York.

The Big Green has pushed three games to overtime this season, winning one and losing the other two. The Raiders have not had their best season, allowing 47 goals and scoring 48 goals in the ECAC. This gives an opportunity for the Big Green to achieve their fifth win of the season. Meredith Jensen ’26 won it in overtime for the Big Green against Brown, and she can do it again this weekend.

Hot Take: Men’s ice hockey to win against Union College and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute

Oriana Zhou | Team: Men’s ice hockey | Event: Games against Union College and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute | Date: Jan. 30-31

Men’s ice hockey will bounce back at Thompson Arena this weekend after back-to-back losses against Cornell and Colgate last weekend. Despite losing in overtime to Cornell and conceding five goals to Colgate, expect the goalies to shut out Union and RPI this weekend.

Dartmouth is currently ranked third in the ECAC standings, while Union and RPI are ranked ninth and 11th respectively. Union is coming off a close 5-4 win against RPI. The Big Green has won seven consecutive matchups against Union.

RPI won the last time the Big Green and the Engineers faced off, but they have been struggling this season with only three conference wins. With three Hobey Baker Award nominees — C.J. Foley ’27, Hayden Stavroff ’28 and Cooper Cleaves ’29 — the team is in a good position to win by a significant margin. Stavroff has also been tied for the most Division I goals this season and leads in goals per game.
