The Dartmouth women's tennis team ended its season by tying with Yale University for first place in the Ivy League on Saturday. In its final contest of the season, the Big Green (14-8, 6-1 Ivy) defeated Harvard University in a close matchup, finishing with a 4-3 victory over the Crimson (9-9, 4-3 Ivy).
Dartmouth got off to a shaky start, losing the doubles point and both the first and second singles matches. The team rallied in the remaining four singles matches, winning with four points overall.
Dartmouth and Yale (21-4, 6-1 Ivy) both finished strong to beat their opponents by a single point. The Big Green saw its undefeated run broken last weekend against Yale in New Haven, Conn., and, earlier this month, the Bulldogs fell to Princeton University in their only loss of the season.
Although the two teams have identical League season records, Yale will advance to the NCAA tournament as a result of its victory over Dartmouth in their match last weekend.
This weekend also marked the final match for Dartmouth's three senior players, co-captains Ryan Reichel '11, Molly Scott '11 and Georgiana Smyser '11. Reichel said the three seniors were thrilled with the results of their final season.
"We're all really excited," she said. "It has been a surreal year. We've had an unbelievable team and we've fought really hard."
