Cornell and Dartmouth used a barrage of home runs to create two high-scoring games in their doubleheader.
The Big Red jumped out to a quick lead against Dartmouth, giving the team an 8-0 lead by the sixth inning. The Big Green rallied, however, hitting three home runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to cut the deficit to 8-5. Hillary Barker '12, Kara Curosh '14 and Britta McOmber '14 all homered in the frame for Dartmouth.
Cornell finished the game with a home run in the top of the seventh, however, before shutting Dartmouth down in the bottom of the inning.
Senior Elizabeth Dalrymple pitched 6.1 scoreless innings for Cornell, striking out 10 Dartmouth hitters in recording the win. Evan Gray '13 pitched five innings for Dartmouth, allowing four runs.
Cornell started quickly in the second game, scoring four runs in the first two innings. Dartmouth quickly retaliated, however, using home runs by Molly Khalil '12, Kat Hicks '12, Noelle Ramirez '13 and Katie Adams '13 to give the team the lead.
Darymple again pitched for Cornell, but was not as successful in the second game. She allowed five runs in her six innings of work.
Ramirez said Cornell always poses a tough test for Dartmouth, and players were determined to rebound from the first game.
"We just wanted to play our game, be confident and leave it all on the field," Ramirez said. "It was great to end the day with a win."
Dartmouth built up a strong lead against Princeton in its first game on Saturday, using a five-run fourth inning to pull away. Hicks blasted a home run, driving in three runs.
The Big Green held a 6-0 lead entering the sixth inning. Princeton, however, rallied and scored five runs in the top of the sixth to close the gap.
Dartmouth held on for the victory, with captain Audrey Kolodziej '11 securing the game in the seventh inning with her second hit of the day.
"It takes one pitch, one at bat, or one play in the field to change the outcome of a game," she said.
Barker allowed one earned run in 5.2 innings to record the win for the Big Green.
Dartmouth could not close the doubleheader with a win, however, going scoreless in the second game. Princeton won, 1-0, with sophomore Alex Peyton allowing just four hits for the Tigers in the game.
"We are usually a scrappy team with a never give up' attitude," Ramirez said. "I think we lost some energy in the second Princeton game and we weren't as intense as we needed to be to win."
Although Dartmouth currently sits in last place in the League North Division, it remains only two games behind first-place Harvard University.
"Stuff will differentiate more as we begin playing our North Division counterparts this weekend," Khalil said.
Dartmouth will next travel to play Yale University in New Haven, Conn., for a four-game series this Saturday and Sunday.
