The team began its unofficial playing schedule with a scrimmage against Providence College in Hanover on Feb. 19.
Towers said the team must make multiple adjustments this season.
"We graduated a very strong senior class, [so] we'll be inexperienced in some areas," he said in an interview with The Dartmouth. "We lost a lot of defensive starters."
Towers said he is confident that the team will be able to move past the lack of experience that has plagued it in previous seasons and use a positive work ethic to achieve a better record.
"The culture of this group seems that they're willing to work for everything that they get," he said.
The team will attempt to utilize an aggressive playing style this season, Towers said in an interview with Lax.com.
"If we have transition opportunities on offense, we're going to push them, but we're not going to shoot to shoot," Towers said. "We're not going to take shots just to register 50 or 60 shots in a game we're going to try to make sure we're smart in what we're doing."
Towers added that the same style of play will translate to both sides of the field.
"Defensively, we're going to do the same thing," he said. "We're going to be high energy very, very aggressive between the lines. I want us to be very, very physical."
Co-captain Adam Boardman '11 said Towers has fully integrated into the team after he was named head coach in June 2009, and the team will seek to capitalize on its adjustment to Towers' leadership this season.
"I think this year everyone has gotten used to his coaching style," Boardman said.
Boardman said the team has improved offensively by placing an emphasis on shooting skills in off-season "mini practices" and following traditional strength and conditioning programs.
Boardman said the off-season practices represented an opportunity for less experienced players to establish themselves, noting that the team saw several "emerging" star players, including freshmen and returning team members.
The Big Green will compete in the annual New England Lacrosse Classic on April 16. Dartmouth defeated Cornell University which was ranked sixth in the nation at the time last season at the Classic, 8-6.
The Big Green will face Princeton University at the competition, which will be held at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass., this year.
Co-captain Rhett Miller '11 said he is excited for the team to play in the Classic again this season.
"It was a really good experience for us last year," Miller said. "It was great to beat Cornell, which is a top-10 ranked team."
This spring also marks associate coach Jon Torpey's last season with the team. High Point University which is establishing its first lacrosse program named Torpey the team's head coach in November, The Dartmouth previously reported.
Torpey will join the High Point staff this June before the team begins its first full season in the 2012-2013 academic year.
Miller said that he is confident the departure of Torpey, the team's top assistant, will have no negative impact on the Big Green's performance this year.
"I don't think it will affect us at all," he said. "He is on board with the defense and 100 percent focused on us."
The Big Green will begin its 2011 season at home against Colgate University on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
