I am almost at the end of my third year at Dartmouth College and this Dartmouth experience has been a roller coaster of a ride. This roller coaster ride has provided me with the opportunity to weave in and out of many communities on campus, to learn about many different perspectives on campus and to understand how this College operates. This ride has built up such love within me for this College that I feel nothing short of obligated to give back as much as I can to the College and leave it in a better state than when I found it.
I want to change the way the Assembly operates and to transform it into a more effective student government body. First, I would shift the Assembly's focus from programming to issues. I intend to encourage more collaboration between the Assembly and other student organizations to tackle student life issues and concerns. This will allow us, as a student body, to come up with better solutions to student concerns and will give us a unified voice when working with the administration. I will personally engage you in the Assembly's initiatives by keeping you informed about important issues, attending student group meetings and holding office hours to discuss your priorities.
The Assembly needs to provide the student body with support and resources to improve student life and give every student access to those who shape our Dartmouth experience. As Student Body President I will organize an open forum with the Board of Trustees once a term, where any student could voice their concerns to those who have the ultimate responsibility for the affairs of the College. I would also like to move the money that the Assembly currently spends on programming to a Student Life Enrichment Fund, which would give you more funding options the next time you have that great idea to improve campus life.
There are small yet impactful services that SA can provide to make your life easier. Here's an example: there are so many applications and deadlines on this campus. The Assembly will work with academic departments, administrative offices and student organizations to create a centralized page on the Assembly web site which will lists all deadlines during any given term for applications such as DOC Trips, Rockefeller Leave Term funding, etc.
These initiatives are bold but realistic. But most importantly, these initiatives are to help you. As your Student Body President, I want to build a personal relationship with you where we can work together to accomplish these initiatives. If you share my vision of bringing us together as one student body working to improve campus, not only will you VOTE UTHMAN OLAGOKE on APRIL 19th, but you will send me a blitz at uMAN'. Let's talk!--Uthman
Vote U for You!
