Men's head coach Barry Harwick said that while the large meet may have been an organizational accomplishment Leverone hosted 11 teams the athletes' performances were the real exception.

"Our officials did a great job in putting on a very large meet," Harwick said. "From my point of view, though, the highlight of the meet was the performance of [co-captain] Ted Lesher ['10]."

Lesher won both the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.39 and the triple jump with 14.67 meters. Both marks were season-best performances for the captain, who said that the meet was strong for the team as well as for himself individually.

"I was really happy to beat one of my rivals from [the University of Vermont] who beat me by .02 [seconds] last year in the same meet," Lesher said. "It's always nice to get some big numbers on the board before the championship season."

Making personal bests is a good sign leading up to the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships, Lesher added.

The Classic highlighted one of the season's ongoing stories, a friendly rivalry in the 60-meter dash between co-captain Muhammed Abdul-Shakoor '10 and rookie Connor Reilly '13.

Reilly took the gold on Saturday with a 6.93 while Abdul-Shakoor followed immediately behind with a time of 6.94, for the meet's closest race of the day.

The teammates have been consistently running under seven seconds this season, and both have held at least a share of the school record this year. Reilly currently holds it with a 6.88.

Abdul-Shakoor came back, however, with a win in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.54. Reilly came in fourth place as the next Dartmouth finisher.

The men's squad posted another strong showing in the 35-lb. weight throw, where Dave Irving '11 earned a second-place finish, while Nick Resendes '12 posted a personal indoor record for fifth place.

To close out the top finishes for the men, Tyler Ford '11 won the 500-meter run in 1:06.34 and the 4x400-meter relay team also took first with a time of 3:28.56.

The women also had several strong finishes on the weekend, with two competitors qualifying for the ECAC Indoor Track and Field Championships, to be held March 6-7.

Rookie Emmaline Berg '13 won the shot put with a throw of 13.87 meters, while Christina Supino '12 ran a time of 2:55.70 in the 1000-meter run. Supino came in second place but still qualified for ECACs.

The Dartmouth women also won five other events during the Classic.

Captain Natalie Stoll '10 and Alexandra Tanner '11 took first and second, respectively, in both the 400-meter and 200-meter dashes.

The Big Green had a strong showing in the pole vault, as Karla Verkouw '13 and Hannah Raila '10 shared the win in the event, with both clearing the bar at 10-11.75.

Malina Simmers '11 barely missed out on an ECAC qualification in the triple jump, but was still able to win the event with a mark of 38'6".

Sarah Klassen '10 took second in the high jump at 5'4.25", but was first among the event's collegiate competitors. Becky Christenson, who is not affiliated with any college team, soared to first place with an overwhelming jump of 5'10".

Some athletes will be competing at the Valentine's Invitational next weekend at Boston University in Boston, Mass., and at the USATF New England Championships on Feb. 21 at Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass., but most of the women's team has a long break before the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships.

"This is the last meet for the majority of the ladies before our Championship meet in three weeks," women's head coach Sandy Ford-Centonze said. "Every time we go into a weekend we all have one goal to continue to stay focused on improving. It's as simple as that."

The women will run two relays at the Valentine's Invitational the distance medley relay and the 4x400-meter relay.

The 4x400-meter relay team ran together for the first time on Saturday winning the event in 3:55.99 and will most likely represent Dartmouth at the Heptagonal Championships, Ford-Centonze said.

Both teams continue to look forward to the Championships, which will be hosted in Leverone Field House on the weekend of Feb. 27-28.

Leverone also hosted the New Hampshire state track held Sunday, which included one of the recruits for the Class of 2014, Dom Filiano of Lebanon, N.H.

Filiano will be an asset to the Big Green squad next year, as he set the New Hampshire state record in the shot put with a throw of 63'3.5" Sunday.
