There is this off-the-beaten-path joint about an hour from my house called Sweet Georgia Brown's. And while Ms. Brown could probably have done a better job making the exterior look less like a glorified trailer home, she makes peach cobbler that could entice people like me to skip last period and drive 50 miles for my soul food fix. Unfortunately, with the exception of FoCo's pretty meager attempts at soul food nights, Dartmouth is about as far off the Soul Train as it gets. As a native Southerner, I spent several meals dreaming about that cobbler and wishing Sweet Georgia would come to her senses already and set up shop in Hanover.

Then one of my friends from Switzerland (hey Alexi!) which is quite possibly the only place less soulful than Dartmouth came to me with the revelation that one can, in fact, experience all of the deliciousness of peach cobbler without having to catch the red-eye back to the South.

  1. Get 4-5 peaches in a cup from the Collis smoothie bar

  2. Make a packet of the Maple Brown Sugar Oatmeal (it's next to the soups) such that the oatmeal is on the thicker side if you're in Collis for breakfast you can even use their oatmeal as long as you add some brown sugar

  3. Top the mixture with a little granola from the salad bar

  4. Add a little butter on top if you're feeling adventurous

  5. Zap it in the microwave for about 45 seconds

It's the perfect breakfast, dessert or late-night snack that you don't have to feel guilty about. Moreover, in exchange for two minutes of your time, you will gain infinite street cred for creating peach cobbler from scratch and best of all, you won't ever wait in the Homeplate dessert demo line again.
