A total of five wallets have been stolen from administrative and faculty offices over the past few days, according to College Proctor and director of Safety and Security Harry Kinne. The thefts occurred when the victims were at work but had temporarily left their offices, which were left unlocked. Hanover Police has identified a suspect and has obtained a search warrant to investigate the case further, Hanover Police Chief Nicholas Giaccone said.

Rep. Paul Hodes '72, D-N.H., is polling only slightly ahead of possible Republican opponents Charlie Bass '74, the former New Hampshire congressman, and former Sen. John Sununu, R-N.H., in the 2010 U.S. Senate race, according to the Rockefeller Center's second annual State of the State poll, released on Tuesday. The poll found that voters care most about building and maintaining a strong economy, improving statewide education and providing health care for New Hampshire citizens. About 45 percent of voters oppose same-sex marriage, while about 41 percent support it, the poll found.

Villagers bordering the Ho Chi Minh Trail in Laos continue to feel the effects of aerial bombardment from the Vietnam War, documentary photographer Marcus Rhinelander said in a lecture held in Haldeman Hall on Tuesday. Bomb craters are spread throughout the Laotian highlands, with thousands of unexploded bombs dotting the countryside. The scrap metal from the explosives has become a major source of income for villagers, who sell it to Vietnamese traders for five cents per pound, Rhinelander said. The remaining bombs, however, pose a major safety hazard for the region, and many residents are killed or maimed from the unexploded bombs, according to Rhinelander, who has documented the lives of people living in the area. Non-governmental organizations are currently working to de-mine many areas within Laos and educate villagers about the dangers of unexploded bombs, he added.
